Got an used 21mm Color Skopar in M-mount - it's in beautiful condition and seems to be very sharp with the snapshots on the Sony a7II

However, I noticed that the f-stop ring makes a tiny 'clacking' / 'grinding' sound as I close down to the smallest f-stops, f/16 and f/22 -

I have a Voigtlander 28mm f/2.0 and it doesn't seem to behave this way.

Is the 'clacking' sound normal to the Color-Skopar? It really comes and goes -

Would you return it?

I do care because I would prefer something that's not defective. Grinding isn't really really comforting.

Have you got any first hand in this particular lens and if the grinding / clacking is normal when turning the f-stop ring?

If it takes very sharp pictures why do you care?

Just happened to have my CL sitting on the desk with the CS21 on it, and it does not make that kind of noise. No lens should. They should all be nice little clicks, with no deviation in amplitude, or feel. I'd send it back.

Thanks - I think I will send it back tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing - appreciate it.

Thanks for your input - yes, that's what I am afraid of...

Got the lens late yesterday and it's been pretty dark - will see if I feel the same grinding today and return it if that's the case.

Cheers,

The grinding suggests the aperture blades are rubbing, which suggests an aperture blade failure in the future.
