Hi folks,

I am interested in what people's thoughts are on eye relief of 21mm finders.

I am using the Voigtlander 21mm plastic finder, have tried the current Zeiss 21mm finder as well, and find eye relief to be not so good on either. In full disclosure, I have to admit I feel eye relief for the 35mm frame in a standard 0.72 finder is not good; to the point that I bought a 0.58 M6 to shoot the 35mm focal length. So I know I am already pretty picky regarding this, but I would like to hear others' thoughts about eye relief, and 21mm finder eye relief in particular.

Thanks and happy shooting!

are you eyes 20/20?

maybe the problem is not the finder.

Thanks for your reply Stephen,

My vision is not 20/20. I have a mild astigmatism. I wonder if that could affect eye relief for me? Im also a lefty, and while Im not totally opposed to smashing the camera against my face (I have to do this all the time with my most used camera; Oly Stylus Epic), It does seem that the Leica finder protruding out from the back of the camera might have increased my viewing comfort...

Thanks! When I bought it, I was just looking for the body to use with my 21mm, but the one I found had the SBOOI included so I got that as well. Incidentally, the last time I was in Sapporo, I was visiting my favorite camera shop and they just happened to have a beautiful 50/3.5 coated Elmar and FOKOS both in feet! Needless to say I couldn't pass them up, so now I own the complete If kit...

I have the Yashica (mine is a beater with front glass coating botched from overzealous cleaning by a former owner). It is very well-made, but the metal eyepiece is detrimental to plastic eyeglasses. I modified it with an epoxied rubber washer, after grinding down the metal part almost to the glass, so the resultant eye-relief is actually a tad more than original.

I also have the one made for the Contax G1-G2, which has a rubber eyepiece. The eye relief on that one is probably best of all. But the image is somewhat dimmer, a trade-off.

I have Leica single plastic, and the 21-24-28 multi finder. Of all the 21's I have I prefer the Leitz plastic one the best.
