21mm Super Angulon

My 19mm F3.5 Canon is the same way. Frames are squeezed close together, about a razor blades' thickness. Difficult to cut the frames apart. Tough to scan too, for this reason, will have to file out the film holder on my scanner.

This is one of the attributes, plusses of the SA: a bigger image on the neg due to the image projecting beyond the edges of the shutter because of the deep rear element.

So true, gotta be careful cutting strips of film for archiving, printing scanning. A serious loss with slide mounts. I don't know how many negative carriers I have filed-out to get all of my SA negs.

The Focomat I-C is maybe the easiest to file-out, the Leitz 35mm color enlarger that looks like a kitchen appliance is the best because of the adjustable neg masking, but I have a lot of experience filing Omega D carriers. The Omega carriers are aluminum and file easily but care must be taken to debur the edges which have to be reblackened to cut edge flare.

It was a bit of work, but I was able to file-out the strip feeder of a Coolscan V which gives a nice black line for all negs but those from the SA for which I at least, now, get the entire neg.

About the 14040 hood cap on the 12501 hood: I've had the 21 SA and hood since 1977, but didn't learn of the 14040 match until a couple years ago. It's a small miracle that I never lost the hood and the lens cap, with all the years of juggling them in and out of pockets and bags. The SA is a quite small lens, and it is easier to handle with the hood always on, IMHO. I wish my matching metal Leitz 21 VF had survived the years as well: it's become internally hazed, and unfortunately I don't believe it can be cleaned.

just received my 14040 hood cap from the mail along with the 50lux pre-a. The hood works beautifully. Thank you tim. :)

HU: 21/3.4 SA on auction site

HU: 21/3.4 SA on auction site

HU: There's a black 21/3.4 SA with hood for sale on eBay for what looks like a pretty good buy-it-now price of $995.
(I have no connection to this sale or seller. In fact, I'm tempted to buy it even though I already have a good chrome copy.)

Go for it! That's a good price. Just today I received my black Super-Angulon and paid considerably more (ok, that was with the original hood, caps and finder included). This is a beautiful piece of glass and this 3.4 version and a high quality lens of modern vintage.

Very cool, indeed!! Were you allowed a tripod in the stadium or is this handheld? How many total images?

It was handheld... with such a wide lens, I just set the focus to infinity and stopped down quite a bit (extremely bright day) -- I'd believe it's about six shots, I'd have to confirm when I'm at home -- the key to getting Photoshop to do ok with these merges is to get a ton of overlap in your shots.

I still had to clone stamp around some of the edges to fill it out with the perspective I wanted. Still need to do some touch-up work on the man standing on the far left -- it's fine for a low-res browse on the web, but if I want to do a print I need to fix it a bit.

i love the distortion (or lack of) that you get with the Super Angulon in certain images.

mine is with my local courier service, ready to be delivered to me tomorrow morning :) can't wait. it was supposed to be here today but, as usual, they screwed up delivery.

This is my Super Angulon f4, Leica M6, on Reala at Kisatchie Bayou in the Kisatchie National Forest. Scanned on a Coolscan 5000
