21mm Super Angulon

Will receive mine next week. Have to order a finder for it.

Used to own CV21 twice, good lens, but not enough for me to keep them. 21mm is not my range, but want a SA so badly in past few months.

Here are a few more images taken with my Super Angulon and Velvia 50. The lens was mounted on my M3.

Finally, I got my copy of the 21/3.4. Should had bought one 2 years ago, their price is just getting higher and higher and if I don't get it now, there is no way I can afford one in the future. Mine is a late copy series start with 26xxxxxx. On the web, many site stated that the late copy had been modificated to fit the M5 and CL. Well, I was trying to fit it onto a CL, but it wasn't the Meter arm that gets in the way. It is actually a piece of plastic behind the focusing coupling that is blocking the rear element. If my measurement is correct, there should be 1mm between the rear element and the
Meter arm. There will be some butchering done tonight.

edit:OK, measurement is a bit off by another 1mm, I think I got a good reason to get another camera.

I doubt it. The symmetrical design of the SA doesn't go well with digital sensors, so any new wide angle from Leica will probably be a (big) retrofocus design.

Well well, I was right to some degree. Leica at least designed the new lens in the spirit of the old super angulon. I imagine that Leica had the expertise to design their own %100 this time and didn't bother to collaborate with Schneider this time hence the new name "super elmar". I'll be looking forward to comparisons of the old with the new.

The new 21mm super-elmar looks interesting. has anyone seen a pricelist yet ?

Looking at the distortion graphs in the technical specs for the new Super-Elmar, I'd say Leica didn't really understand what the `Spirit of the old Super-Angulon' was.

I have an SA/3.4 but have never actually seen any distorton graphs for it - does anyone know if these actually exist and have any links?

Thanks Ari!
Next time I'm up in the city I'm going to try to get together with a few RFF/LUG folks if possible.

Is there anyone, anywhere, who actually has a 21mm Super Elmar in hand? I'm wondering what the 6-bit code is and which frameline the lens brings up. If it pulls up the 50mm frame then us Super Angulon users could code our lenses accordingly and we'd at least have a better indication in EXIF what lens shot what photo. It's nice data to have for organization since I have a few thousand images shot with the ZM 21mm f/2.8 which was coded as the 21mm Elmarit ASPH, same as the SA right now in manual mode.
