21mm Voigtander f1.8 reviewed

Lovely write-up as always, thank you! I've tried it out once already but was put off by having to use an external finder - and at 1.8 I found zone focussing too difficult.

But the image quality was really impressive on the M9 and M3.

zone focusing too difficult????? This has to be one of the easiest lenses to do zone focusing with, stick it at f/4 and have everything from 5 ft out in focus. This turns your rf into the ultimate p&s

gwg wrote "at 1.8". At that aperture up-close images (say 4') will have a fairly shallow DOF, certainly not enough to zone focus a moving subject.

Still, the vast majority of the time, such up-close subjects are not grab shots, and can afford a few seconds of focusing with the RF. For everything else, 8' and outwards, DOF should be large enough to Zone focus even at 1.8 if you really must shoot that open.
