they are doing it wrong.. we need a 50mm or 75mm GR, not wide 😛
I think 24mm would be too wide as a daily lens for most shooters, for me it is but interesting never the less.
A 21mm would be sweet and something that a lot would be interested on. have the GW3 to keep me happy for now though.
24mm is very useful. In my opinion, it's the widest lens you can use without having to think especially hard about the consequences of wide-angle distortion. I have 24mm equivalent on my TZ40, Sony R1 and a Tamron AD2 24mm for my 5D. You could safely make out a case that I'm just a little bit addicted! 😀
I was hoping this was for a fast 24mm lens for the GR...not a 24mm equivalent. The 24mm/35 equivalent FOV would have been the bee's knees on a GR, with maybe an f/2 aperture, I would have had to start saving up.
Still, I do like ultrwides, and I am far more likely to pick up a 24 than a 28. 28 is just not far enough away from either 24 or 35 to bother with.
As nice as a 24 fov would be and I might even buy one..
We already have 21/28 via the gw3. I want a 40 or a 50 fov. If I can use my gw3 on it, I would possibly have a 21/28 and 37/50 between 2 cameras. Or give me a tele extender for the existing gr.
At end of the day, I am glad they are expanding their gr line.
I would also love for them to do a replacement for the gxr w/ a12 m module. But given what Sony has done w/ the a7, I doubt that is in the cards 🙁
It does seem like a strange choice. I doubt you will ever see a 35/40mm-50mm GR. I keep trying to figure out why they would go 24mm. If they were using a 1.33x crop, like the M8, it would be a 21mm. It is highly unlikely that is the case for CMOS. On FF, a 16mm makes no sense for a fixed lens camera.
The only thing I can think of is that some people just prefer a 24mm over a 28mm. 21mm is a different animal.
I told Ricoh my dream, but they didn't listen. It was about a GR with a 28-35-50 (or even just 28-50) lens, no zoom but something like a mini Tri-elmar, but f2.8. Would that be smaller than a 28-70 zoom? Dunno, but it's allowed to dream.
The Panasonic LX7 has become one of my most-used cameras because at 16:9, the multi aspect ratio sensor is more like 21.5mm. This wide angle view in a pocket sized camera thrills me no end. Sometimes, I wish that the GR's 28mm lens was wider, too. A 24mm f2 GR would be a dream.
Stand-alone 24mm GR is not a useful piece of gear for my needs. What I'd like to see is something akin to the old GX200… with a lens covering 24 to 50mm (or maybe 75), with focal length step mode like the GX200. Put this lens configuration on the GR's APS-C sensor and I'm on it immediately!🙂
