I am looking find something a tad wider than a CV 28mm.

I was thinking a Zeiss Biogon T* 25mm F2.8 ZM, the question is can I avoid an ext optical finder?

Can I utilize the whole viewfinder without the 28mm frame line?

Has anyone tried this?

I rented the 25mm 2.8 to do precisely that and it worked well for me.

Some pretty casual shots here of a friend's wedding. Not saying they're anything special, but I think they show that I had a lot of confidence on what would be in frame. No cropping on any of the shots.

If anything, I might say that the viewfinder shows slightly more than what will be in frame, but that's just my relatively uneducated opinion.

25mm was my main lens when I first got the rd1 but mine was the CV f4 version. It a great lens and I used the whole finder to frame and used to get a tad more so always managed to include whatever I was trying to frame. I now use a 15 & 28 but I still say go for it.

i use a 15 on the rd1 without an external finder. i used to use a finder but after a while you know what will show on your image.
the 15 on the rd1 is a wonderful combo, very sharp and i use it like a point and shoot.
but it helps if you're comfortable moving in close.
