26 US for a re-lube service?

Is that expensive? I don't want to do it myself since I don't have the right tools and I'm not an expert at these things haha. But yea, I just want to ask them and re-lube the focusing ring on my summicron 50/2 collapsable. Thanks :D

I'd be tempted to get at least two quotes from other providers. Look around at the cameras they have either serviced or waiting for service.

If I saw a few other older cameras/lenses I'd say they might be good. Lack of older stuff doesn't disqualify them, just makes me look around more. Disassembly of an older lens is not that hard, it's the reassembly where the skill really is.

Great question, keep asking them!

Where I'm at the "cheap" guy would charge about $60 for this. The expensive guy would charge more just to take the lens apart, never mind actually doing anything with it.

No.
I guess you could find cheaper services in a resourceful place like HK. In most non-resourceful countries and regions they basically just charge whatever they like and you need to thank them 100 times for dealing with your old toys.

That's why I don't like buying film cameras that can't be fixed by myself.

Since you found a collapsible Summicron with an intact front element, I would NOT find the cheapest repair guy out there to do this job. If they treat this lens like any other, your glass will get scratched, or they will wipe the anti-reflective coating off. Also element spacing is critical, as there is an air space of 1mm between two elements.

For your lens I would seriously consider sending it out to someone in the UK, USA, or Japan who is a recognized Leica expert.

Or even Leica who do repairs etc for their cameras and lenses. getting it collimated properly is going to be one of the problems.

Regards, David
