I'm about to take the plunge into an M8 so I am looking for 28mm, but when I checked out cameraquest both the 1.9 and the 3.5 were discontinued. I know I can still get them new, but what gives. Is there a replacement lens or lenses coming?

There should be M-mount replacements coming, but you might as well just get the LTM version. The optical design is unlikely to change.

I haven't used the 1.9, but the 3.5 is a real beauty. I'd highly recommend getting one, just in case there isn't a M replacement. Rumor is that it didn't sell well -- a complete mystery to me because it's an outstanding performer and very compact.

a 28 2.5 in m mount would be tasty, i like the 3.5 too though, im not on of those people complaining that not all lenses are 1.4... 😀

My guess is that the metal will become more ZI or Leica like but the glass will remain the same. For the 3.5 this might be better (don't have one) but the 1.9 is likely to stay mostly the same.

Again, just guessing but looking at what CV has done of late, that's how I would call it.

The 28/3.5 is pretty sweet as it is. It feels as though it is made of brass, and the finish (at least in black) appears to my eyes to be quite wear resistant.

They are both pretty much perfect as they are. Not much
that can be improved mechanically on the Color Skopar, IMO.
Having LTM mount has advantages, for instance for use of
both on CLE and M6 with different adapters 🙂 Or (don't really
care about this one personally) for coding on an M8 ....

Get them while available !

Cheers,

Roland.
