28 & 50 on the rd1

anyone use this combo on their rd1 on a regular basis/as a standard kit?

these are my least used lenses and i wonder why that is. i would think that it would be a standard kit and used often but i so much prefer my 40/75 combo that i find most of my other lenses are just collecting dust.

You know, I still haven't been able to get a 28. I imagine I would use 28/50 combo a lot on this camera. I certainly like the 50.

i use the 35 fl for my 40 and the 50 fl for the 75...works a treat.

i liked a 50 on the rd1 (fov of the 75) but much prefer the 75 on the rd1.

It's now been two years since I left the RD-!s for the M8.2, but my basic kit for the Epson was the CV 28/1.9 and the Canon LTM 50/1.2, also used the Zeiss ZM 18/4.0 with the CV 28mm auxiliary VF.

The 43mm FoV of the 28mm was uncomfortably long for my tastes that gravitate to the 35mm FoV as a normal look. A 40mm would be even longer, but to each his own. Likewise, the 28mm FoV of the 18mm was a bit too long as a wide look, I prefer a 21mm look for my wide perspective.

i also like the 21 on the rd1...but lately i do not hear the call of the wides...even my 15 sits.

more like a 60/110 phase...but you may be right.

funny how i can love only wides for a while and then move to a 'longer' way of seeing things.

I used to be a "28 guy". Then (by force first, later by choice) I liked 35. Since a few weeks I'm so into 50s .... suddenly seems like the ideal focal length.

They are all pretty. Enjoy them !

I thought about trying the 28 on the RD1 but went with a 35.

The FOV of a 28mm or 35mm on the RD1 is too in between for me to ever really be happy with it. To me that seems perfect 🙂

I ended up deciding on using 35 instead of 28 only because it provide a little more room to see around the frame lines.

i agree that it's not hard wired...for a long time i could not take the 15 off the rd1. then i sold mine, thinking i'd get the newer version - that didn't happen - but i did rebuy an ltm version...but it does not jive with me these days. in the interim i have discovered the 40 seems 'just right'...

i hope to head out this summer for a few days with just the 28 and 50 and see what happens.

Although for many people the difference is not big enough, I mostly use my 28mm M-Rokkor (the one which had the white spots removed) and a 35mm Nokton.

For some time, I almost used the 28mm exclusively, but currently I'm shifting back to the 35mm. I would love to use 50mm more often, but I'm not really satisfied with my 50mm-lens.

Yep, I use an Industar 69 28mm (usually for street snapshots), and the 50mm is usually a Summicron. I've had some great shots from the Industar 22 and the Jupiter 8 as well. The lack of tight quality controls aside, I'm quite impressed by the FSU glass.
But for general shooting with the RD-1, I usually use my Summicron IV 35.
The Summicron glass delivers out-of-camera RAW files that look like they have already been sharpened and colour adjusted. I haven't had any other RF lenses do that. Absolutely amazing stuff.

well, i just unloaded the 5xc, made 2 kits and loaded the 2 5xb bags.

i have the rd1s with 40, 75 and 21 and the rd1 with 28, 50 and 15.

tomorrow i start carrying the 28/50 kit and we will see what happens.

Roland's right. You are in a Digital M3 space. And a mighty fine one at that. I often gyrate towards a 50-90 kit until I wake up and remind myself that I am a RF guy who must use wides. But Joe it isn't true. Use what works.😎

it took me a while to realize that while the fov changes because of the crop factor...the look of the lens looks pretty much the same...a 28 looks like a 28 and a 50 looks like a 50.
