If it will help, XA2's often turn up in charity shops for a couple of pounds. And get snatched up quickly, never hesitate as someone else in the shop will be after it: well, that's my experience.

Caveat emptor: Ricoh GR1 electrical systems have a tendency to die and, so far as I can tell, there is no one remaining who will service them. Amazing cameras when they work, though.

As a former owner of a GR1 I can vouch for this. Mine had an electronics fault (circuit board needed to be replaced) when it came to me via the mail - and it was packed VERY well too. Getting it fixed, well, I was lucky locally but this also was some 5-6 years ago - the tech had to scour the city for spare parts to cannibalize in order to get it back to working order.

That said, yes, incredible when it did work. 🙂

Currently I would say the Fuji Klasse W is the current "king" of the 28mm P&S cams... but it's pricey.

When I contacted them about my dead GR-1 a couple of months ago, here was their reply:

Unfortunately due to the age of this model the parts and service are no longer available and we can no longer service this model.

I'd agree...but large and expensive.

It's a wee bit larger than the GRD (thicker and longer) and definitely more expensive - but the quality of the images kicks butt and I don't feel as "scared" about carrying it around as I did with the GR1. That said, I got mine used - it's hard to pay full price new for the camera because, as we've noted, of the price.

But a great camera none the less - I just think it's more readily available than the GR1 BUT if anything goes wrong with it there's no service what so ever in North America (or maybe even Europe?).
