Is the color skopar that much better than the canon 28mm 3.5 which is a bit cheaper and sometimes comes with a viewfinder? As it seems as though the market price has shot up for color skopar.

I won an auction for one of these the other day for $300 US. $285 Canadian, thank you strong loonie! I think it was a combination of the seller having only 74 feedbacks (all positive), and the auction ending at 2am. It's on it's way to me so I've got my fingers crossed. The seller did describe one dust-sized mark on the front coating, and it looked like there was some brassing. It includes an m adapter but no finder.

Instead of $600 for the CV I would double down and get the Leica 28/2.8 ASPH. The used market at this time makes little sense. Stuff far over priced.
I think you mean triple down... you're not getting the 28mm ASPH for $1200.

Even though its price is hiking, this lens is an excellent little lens.
I actually prefer this lens to Biogon, even though Biogon is twice more expensive.
But it may be because I am shooting with a cropped M8?

poss not a bad price if you can get a good one, but with CV products the odds of getting a lemon is not that slim unfortunately. The same is true of new leica lenses, but they can generally be made perfect under warranty (like my 75 sumarit). A used CV that is wonky inside is a lost cause if bought used. I recently bought a 25P and it is a cracker, but the used 21P I bought and returned a while back was like a coke bottle on the right hand side of the frame.

The Skopar 28 has enjoyed a reputation as being one of the best built of all the CV lenses. You seldom read complaints about it (I can't recall ever having read a complaint about its build quality), unlike other CV lenses which may exhibit QA/QC issues. I've had my sample for close to five years w/ no complaints, and it's been knocked around a fair bit. The image quality is great, too. Although it's contrasty, the Skopar 28 does nice things w/ b&w tones, and I like mine for landscape work. So current prices may reflect reputation as well as scarcity, although over $500 sounds a little crazy to me.

I have the 21 28 and 35 skopars, all similar sizes, but the 28 is one third heavier.
I do wish it was a 2.5 like the 35 but you can't have everything..

I payed around $400 for mine second hand a couple of years ago (actually I traded a 28/1.9 for it). Great great lens. Sharp, tiny and no VF blockage. I got a chrome one. Unfortunately, it wears quickly. I have quite a bit of brass showing now on the lens. Still takes great pictures tho!
$400 is still the going price used... most of the time. However, it'll comntinue to gain value as word gets out and people start keeping them. I think it only gets slept upon due to its slow aperture.

I just bought a Mint slightly used 28mm from Stephen for $550. There was one in Japan at the time for $50 less but I've had great results form Stephen so I went that route. The first roll shot with an IIIF is not back from the lab, when it is I'll post a couple of shots.

I definitly payed more than the happy hour price, but I picked it up because of its very small size. That was my most important reason. Now I'm in love with this lens, shooting mostly city buildings and street views with it. I will add other lenses to my Hexar RF, but the 28/3.5 will deifnitly remain in my collection.

I used to have one but recently sold it to fund the Biogon 28/2.8. Image and build quality were great, and I loved the compactness, but it was just a bit too tiny for my hands. Sold mine for 250 € on eBay.
