So how come the 28mm Biogon for Contax G is so much less expensive than the ZM Biogon. Are there differences beyond the mount?

I'm coveting this lens for my M6, but can't quite bring myself to justify the price.

Mainly because its discontinued and the prices these days are run outs for most G stuff. The M mount version can also be used on alot more cameras.

There are differences in the design, which is newer and probably has newer more environmentally friendly glasses, the mount, which has to be more complex to work with the M rangefinder, and the new lenses are made on a new assembly line at Cosina instead of the old Kyocera one.

I'm thinking of selling my old Black Biogon 28 ZM lens, a great optic to be sure. I just got the tiny Leica 28mm/2.8 ASPH and it seems silly to have two such similar lenses. Its barrel is a bit scratched and dinged due to a 18" fall off a park bench onto the sidewalk, but is still in perfect working order with no mechanical or optical problems. Smooth focus, definitive aperture clicks, no iris problems or glass problems, used well for over a year after the mishap. I'll let it go for a reasonable price in light of its missing paint. E-mail me or PM me if you are interested. I think I have high-res photos of the lens condition at home.
