Leica All Day
Veteran
Hello everybody.....
My 28mm elmarit v3 somehow got messed up when I was in Myanmar.....First off, the focusing started to "slip" a couple of days into my trip, it seemed like as I was focusing the lens something would not "grip" and it would "slip" a little bit....annoying as it was, I could still use the lens and didn't think a lot about it.....then a couple of days later the front ring became detached from body and now the thing swivels a full 360 quite easily.....the lens shade, the filter and the front ring that has the white aperture dot on it (see photo) now swivels around like a carousal......
In the photo you will notice that I am missing one of the two posts that connects to the lens shade.....that post has been missing for 6 years and it has never given me a problem....the lens shade has been held in place by just one of the posts and it hasn't really bothered me that much throughout the years....
I inspected the lens closely and none of the screws are missing or loose on the front part of the lens that has become loose......when I rotate the front ring I notice that there is a slight "click" where it is supposed to be (aperture dot aligned properly)...but it doesn't stay there.....I can't figure out how it became detached.....
Does anybody have any ideas.......did it "de-cement".........has anybody used this lens and have had this problem?
I noticed that the lens elements do not rotate, just the front ring, the filter and the shade....I continued using the lens lens after I noticed what happened since the elements were not moving...
I plan on sending the lens off to Sherry and getting it repaired.....it is my "go-to" lens and I have used it a lot over the years....I know it looks rough, but the elements are clean and scratch free......
any body have any idea what happened?
also a part of the foot on my 15mm vc viewfinder also broke during my trip......but it hasn't really affected anything....the viewfinder still fits snug in my hotshoe.
cheers, michael
