I'm thinking about getting a hood for my A36 summaron. I believe the right hood is the FOOKH (as in "wow, this little hood is FOOKH'n expensive"). Does anyone know what the front cap size is for this hood? I'm thinking it's about 40/42mm, haven't found a definitive answer though.

While I'm on the topic, does anyone know where I can get a 3rd-party hood that doesn't cost more than the lens?

I am afraid Simon Bruxelles has it wrong. On the FOOKH fits the normal 42mm Leica front cap, not the 39mm cap of the lens.
The Fikus hood is top-heavy. It never fits really good.

Hi Erik, Thanks for setting the record straight I had incorrectly assumed the FOOKH was simply a truncated FISON. I have deleted my previous message to avoid further confusion. S

i have a 35mm elmar f3.5 which uses A36 filters. i may be shot for this, but while i'm still looking for a FOOKH for under $70, i found a plastic plumbing pipe with an inside diameter of about 36mm, cut off a ring to use as a temporary lens shade, and painted it matt black. a (rich) friend with a FOOKH measured his and told me its total height is 1.65cm. it's easy to change the plastic ring from filter to filter as required - it just slips on and off, and doesn't hurt the filter.

don't shoot!

The original shade for the Elmar 35mm f/3.5 is the FLQOO. It resembles the FOOKH, but is about 5mm deeper. This is one of the best shades for the early lenses. It is on 50mm lenses even better than the FISON, because it is wider. You can reach the f-stop easier. It is also great on a Summar. Sadly, it is very hard to find.

thanks, erik. now i can search (in vain) for the FLQOO too. at least my PPIPE is available to reduce flare. 😀

PS. a quick search shows 4 FLQOO, at following BIN prices: EUR 92,83 EUR 196,37 EUR 135,67 and EUR 163,52

I just bought a screw mount 35mm 3,5 Summaron. I am wondering whether it even needs a hood. The front element is much more recessed than the 3.5 50 Elmar I have from 20 years earlier (1932). Furthermore, I tested it on a digital, and the Fison seems to work too. Anyone manage without a hood.....? Does anyone use the Fison on the Summaron?

Late last year I found a very nice 35 3.5 Summaron in LTM and then shortly later added the FOOKH hood. I purchased the hood from KEH for around a hundred dollars US. Wish I had only known two weeks later the price would be fifty percent off. I have a bag of snap on lens caps from Heavystar for 39 mm screw thread and on a whim I tried one on the lens hood and it fits perfectly. It protects the lens, keeps sunlight from burning a hole in the shutter curtain and best of all you get ten for ten dollars. Better to lose one of those than the ones with the Leica script.
