In preparation for selling my v1, I noticed a slight rattle coming from the front of the lens. I could not see anything move when I rotated the lens around so I had it checked out by the local tech. They report that it is the inter diaphragm plate. They state that it will not affect operation but I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this. The tech says that it can be fixed by tweaking the plate to create more friction.

I'm tempted to leave it alone if it does not affect operation. As a potential buyer would you be turned off by the rattle? Comments appreciated.

Sazerac,
I am honestly turned off by this. Not only b/c of the sales price of the lens, but b/c it is still a rather "new" lens (recent production, eg not a 1940 leica summitar).

I think the price for this lens on the used market will have to be significantly less than others simply due to the rattle. Maybe its just me, but any NOISE from a camera or lens is an automatic turn off. If I can hear it, I cant get away from it. If it is a visual blemish, then it is much less distracting. To be fair though, they may be a population of RFFers whom the rattle will not bother. I dont know, maybe you just get used to it.
good luck

Same with both of mine, can't see any problems. Honestly, it doesn't cause me to lose any slerp.

Granted, a lens should not make a rattling noise... however, there have been credible reports of rattling (new) Summiluxes. Go figure...

Greetings, Ljós

Mine has a very slight rattling; more of a "ticking" actually. I think it's normal and probably from the aperture mechanism or some such.

Ticking is probably more accurate. Funny, I never noticed it until I decided to sell it. 😉

Thanks for the reality check! Sometimes I get a little too concerned about minor issues.
