Yes it is (so I was told by the Australian dealer) but I'm a film user. I've only had my lens for around 5 hours, and first roll is currently drying. Will post some results tomorrow.

I got the chrome version. Lens feels truly wonderful. The knurled focus ring felt weird at first, but after a few minutes I got used to it and now I love it. Can't comment on results (yet) but it really seems like a gorgeous lens. Don't love the VF blockage with the hood on however, but I don't think this lens is super susceptible to flare... would like to hear opinions on this... am thinking of just leaving it off and using a generic 49mm lens cap.
 
Let me ask you folks who are waiting for this new lens .... do you own the previous (LTM) design and .... what do you think of that design?

Hi Dave. I have never used the LTM version but hear great reports about it. My only comment re: the new version is its size. When you compare the dimensions to the 50, there is clearly going to be a fair bit of VF blockage. With a hood especially, and by reports on the LTM version, it will probably need it. I guess these days the lenses are primarily intended for mirrorless digital (0.5 min focus also points to this).

I have the LTM version, and I love it. I have seen complaints that it is too modern in its rendering, too contrasty, too sharp. I really figure I can live with such shortcomings. I have found it to be an excellent lens, with remarkably sharp results, good handling, and good resistance to flare. It is small, and takes 39mm filters, as proper Leica lenses are supposed to. I can't think of any reason I would ever want to replace it with an M mount version. I would prefer to save the money and use it for something mundane, like eating for a couple of months.

Nice seeing some good photos with this new lens. Much less nice to see some ads in the image flow! I think this is the first time I have seen them on flickr, although I have not been browsing much in recent weeks.

The ads surely disrupt the experience, and I will now think twice before I click a flickr link again.
 
While I always enjoy seeing a new RF lens come out, so far, based on those photos in the link above - for me CV 35/1.2 with either CV 40/1.4 or Original Ultron LTM would be something I'd chose instead. New Ultron, while nice and interesting, seems to be a pretty large and heavy lens, while based on the photos - if I go with a large lens, I much prefer 35/1.2. LTM Ultron seems to be more compact and while still delivering a very good image quality - so again - wins over the new one for me. I'd like to see more pictures with the new Ultron to get a better idea of how it draws, but so far I have no plans to replace or even add to what I have in this FL.

That is what I did too. I've never seen the lens flare, but a hood protects the front element somehow.

The 35/1.7 is expected to ship in August.

The new optical design is optimized for digital sensors, for increased sharpness and decreased color shifts. SFAIK this design will also be outstanding for film.

Please take note all brass construction of the chrome version weighs in more at 11.6 oz while the aluminum lens barrel of the black version comes in at 8.4oz.

Originally announced with a filter size of 43mm, production lenses have a filter size of 46mm.

The black or silver lens hoods will be sold separately from the lens.

The new improved Voigtlander 35mm f/1.7 Aspheric Ultron Leica M mount lens is expected to start shipping from CameraQuest towards the end of August 2015.

This is a new improved optical design designed for digital sensors. As I understand it, the sharpness of the 35/1.2 in a lens half the size.

Bundled with a premium B+W 007 Nano Clear Filter and Next Day Shipping to most lower 48 locations, both Chrome or Black versions are priced at $980.


According to Tom A who has been shooting this lens for some time, it is exceptional.

The voigtlaender.com site shows quite different looks for the black and chome models. Black is smaller diameter around the aperture ring. Also noticed the filter diameter is specified as 43mm. Now I wonder which it will be: 43 or 46?

The pictures (and text) are not updated yet; only pricing was added (like it!)
Tom A has the pre-production version with 43mm Filterthread since last year in use.
Some weeks ago he wrote at flickr that the final version will be 46mm for both colors!
Great news for M-users with mostly 46mm ...
 
Yes, the f-stop ring from the black model is slightly different, but the picture can be from a prototype.

The question 43mm or 46mm is very interesting. I also want to know how the standard hood looks. In any case, I do not like the optional hoods, they are too big. A slim little hood in black will be better.

The most interesting question is if the new lens is better than the old one. The old one is extremely good, hard to beat.

Looks like this one has no relation at all to the old one. More elements, more groups. I think they are shooting for something that works well on the Sonys, like the CV 15 v3. That lens is better than it's predecessor by a good margin.
