35/2 hood

I know its rare, but how much do these usually sell or when they surface? What do they look like? Is there a model/part number for it that I need to search for? If its not too expensive, I'm thinking I'd like to have the genuine Canon hood for it (if I can find one). I do have the Cameraquest hood and it does fine, so I don't have a real need for it, just figured I'd ask.

I think Roland is correct, there is no specific Canon hood for this lens. The front element is set so far back it may not need one.

That said, when I owned one, I used a shallow Kodak series VI hood with 42mm push on adaptor ring without a problem. Not pretty, but effective.

It's hard enough finding "common" Canon RF items around the world, but searching for some really rare item is not my favorite (translation--don't do it at all) thing to do. This is especially true for some item I could lose (hood, VF, etc.) using unless I owned a museum and/ or just wanted for display. 'Just my two cents worth.

I've never seen or having read of a dedicated Canon 2/35 hood.

And, yes, the front lens of the 2/35mm is somewhat recessed. But like most if not all Gaussian wideangle designs, it isn't free of flare when used in backlight situations, and benefits from a hood which is tight enough but not too tight. The Leica pre-asph. Summicron 2/35 has a similar lens design and shows pretty similar flare in use. When making slides I use the (slightly too tight) 1.5/50 hood (rare, but I use this lens too). the vignetting cannot be seen with framed slides. With other film, I have no solution. BTW the flare of the 2/35 Canon isn't as bad as with the Canon 2.8/35 (which shares a genuine Canon hood with the 1.8/50), or C/V 1.7/35...

cheers Frank

Thanks for the replies. I knew I had read something about a Canon 35/2 hood somewhere, so I did a quick search and I believe what I read was this, "This lens (Canon 35/2) can only be used with the Canon black clamp-on round shade."

From http://www.dantestella.com/technical/canoleic.html

I'm guessing this is just some generic shade?

I have a picture of an S-42 hood that I snagged somewhere. I noted it as being for the 35/2.0, but looking at it, it's identical in shape to the round hood for 50/1.8 and 35/2.8. So it's probably just the last hood for the black/chrome 50/1.8. It would be a W-42 if it was for a wide-angle lens, I'd suppose.

On the other hand, maybe it works just fine on the 35/2.0. I just put it on my 35/1.8, and sighted through the 7s's film aperture at T, and I sure couldn't see it.

Certainly the 50/1.8 & 35/2.8 round hood is about as common a Canon hood as you would want to find.

BTW--for filters I had S.K.Grimes make a 40>49mm step up ring. I have a ton of filters for the latter size. Works great when I can remember to put the filters in my bag!

I use a generic 49mm wide angle metal hood w/ this combo.

HI,

Canon never made a specific hood for the 35mm f/2 LTM lens because as Rover mentioned it is recessed into the body someway. But if there is flare a later clamp-on hood with the W-? prefix should do the job. Never done that myself but shortly I hope to start using some of my LTM Canon lenses as I just purchased a Voigtlander Bessa R body with TTL metering.

CanonRFinder:

I always use a hood w/ my 35/2 because I want to keep my clumsy, dirty fingers off it. One of these days I may be brave and try it W/O for compactness reasons.

You're using a "lowly" Bessa w/ your Canon lenses, instead of a Model P, 7, L1, etc? 'Just kidding. Please don't all the Bessa lovers jump on me for my feeble attempt at humor.

BTW--do you have a 50/ 1.5 lens for sale?

Bill

HI Bill,

Knew I would get some bite on me mentioning my Bessa R....😀

Just didn't want to take out my RF cameras and drop one, besides the TTL metering was the only thing that swayed me, since the Bessa L came out yonks ago. Now I can use some of my 160 LTM lenses in my collection to see how they perform and get away from being a "collector" and back in to being a user.

Still a collector though and afraid I have no spare 50mm f/1.5 lenses for sale.

Well, shucks, there's an S-42 on eBay right now, item 130042124617.

Probably too tight for the 2/35 Canon. Looking similar to my 1.5/50 hood. And I know of no "W-42" hood, whereas a W-50 (for the 1.5/35) exists.

cheers

If the "W" hoods take a Series VI adaptor rings you can always just use a 42mm push on ring from another hood.

Is this a useful item?

Is this a useful item?

Since you all are talking about hoods, is this one of any significance?

I don't mean to sound dumb, I'm just ignorant. lol
