35/3.5 is here!!

the 35/3.5 arrived in today's mail!

it is a sweet little gem of a lens, even smaller than the 35/2.8 which i thought was very small.
the finder has some brassing on top but i opened it up & cleaned it and omg is it clear & bright!
the lens itself has a tiny bit of brassing in one place (that i noticed so far), the glass is completely unscratched but it looks like an internal cleaning is in order. i want to shoot with it first before i even think about sending it off or taking it apart myself.
the focus is like butta and the aperture ring turns very smoothly.
no click stops though, i don't care for that.

i love new gear!!

in truth, i think i'm done with the bodies except for a 6l, someday.

i would like to 'collect' the 1.5 and the 3.2, but the price would have to be just right. other than for the sake of collecting i'm not sure what they might offer me.

this 3.5 might be my winter daylight lens, stopped down and razor sharp (one hopes🙂)

though it IS very cool to have four 35mm lenses now.
i'm understanding those 50's collectors a bit better now.

The 35/1.5... that's one curious piece of glass. Sean Reid's tests put it on the soft side but that shouldn't put as aside of plain good curiosity 🙄

yeah, the 1.5 is a mystery and therefore something i would like to play with.
but they do not pop up often and they are expensive when they do.

we shall see...

i don't really give a flying flip about bokeh!!

it has to be the most dumb thing we talk about here.
the idea that people base their buying decisions, spending a ton of cash on a lens for it's out of focus rendering of a background amazes me to no end.

I don't care about bokeh either. I just care about the super sharp part. That's why I own super sharp lenses and parted with the junk some time back. (Mostly Nikon and Olympus glass).

well I have owned a 35/1.5 for the last 16 years, its not as contrasy as the 35/2, which is similar to the CV 35/1.7 which is amazing really, the Canon 35/2 came out in 1962 and the CV lens only a few years ago, the 35/2 still delivers a bit better colours (with colour film ) IMHO. But getting back to the 35/1.5, it is like the Canon 35/2.8 in contrast, at larger apertures, and almost 2 stops faster, it is very close to the look (bokeh too) you get with the Canon 50/1.4 at full bore. If you like that old timey look to your photos Joe, you can't better than the 35/1.5 for a hi-speed 35mm lens, IMHO, not a common lens, but one that is a little under rated and not mentioned very much. may be thats good, as the price would be much higher if people knew how good it is.
