35mm fixed focal length P&S recommendation?

Those cheap fixed focal length P&S seem to be hard to come by. Just checked a local auction site and so far I've found a Rollei Prego Zoom for $1, a Contax Tvs II for $10 and a Leica Minilux Zoom for $100 but thei're all zooms.
There's one Contax T3 that's looking awfully handsome but at $450 it's just too expensive.

I've just ordered a Fujifilm Klasse S, not got it yet, but you could check it out. They are in current production, so available brand new.

The Pentax Espio Mini Pentax was given a cheap metallic silver finish and sold in USA as the UC-1.
It is an excellent performer. Cambridge (!) is currently selling some NOS UC-1's on eBay.

The Fuji Natura S looks nice but too expensive. Also, it's a bit too wide for my taste.
The Lomo LC-A is not really an option for me as I don't want a toy camera.

FWIW, I have my eyes set on a Olympus mju II which is currently going for $15 with one bid and few hours to go. I'll see if I can get it with a well placed bid at the last minute :)

My Contax T2 and Yashica T4 have never let me down, and you can find them relatively cheap if you look past the vultures and collectors, but for the money that Olympus Stylus Epic is a killer deal. Small and powerful, I don't think you'll be let down at all, I found one for $5.99 at the sally-ann.

If we come down to Epics and t4's, then I find Fuji Zoom Date F2.8 (Silvi in Japan) to be perfect travel camera. VF is a bit cramped, but it's my only complain. It doesn't qualify here, though, is it has zoom lens.

So it turns out I wasn't the only one watching the Mju and it went up to $70 in the last 10 minutes. Crazy. So I guess I'll leave it at that for now and will keep watching the auction sites and local camera stores for good deals. After doing some research I guess my ideal p&s would be a Contax T3 but that's quite a big chunk of money.

You can find tons of point and shoot film cameras at thrift shops (Goodwill, Salvation Army) for less than $10. Most aren't worth even that, but you may get lucky and find a good model. (T4, etc.)

Unfortunately the market here in Switzerland is limited as far as thrift shops and flea markets go. I've never found anything decent in any of them.

I'll try to sell some stuff to make some room and fund a decent 35mm P&S. I have a Yashica Electro which I never really use and a Canon film EOS that I'd get rid of if I had a decent 35mm. I might even try to find a reasonably priced T2 or T3.

I haven't used full-sized Electro too much so far, too - just because of size. Instead, I use a lot small bodied Electro (35 MC, to be exact). I guess if you would get small Electro (FC, GX, maybe CC), it would prove as very good P&S because of electrobrain providing Av style exposures (you still have control over aperture).

Cult plastic P&S's fetch same or even more...go figure.

I have a Leica Mini, Elmar lens, and nice bult in lens cover for the fixed lens.

May have a red dot, just do not recall, but the percentage of sharp images and reliability are up there.

My friend's son took it to Europe couple of years ago, his shots were better than any of his friend's.

I might even have the box, used the camera as a back up.

Regards, John

Please - once you get the camera and use it a bit - let us know how it is. It is nearly impossible to find anything about it on the web (in English at least) - not even the full specifications.

I would love to learn more about the Fuji Natura 28-50 too.

We all think we need a p&s

We all think we need a p&s

Doesn't it happen to all of us eventually? We all value high quality cameras which enable us to take control, and we secretly believe that their quality will allow our undiscovered raw talent to flourish. I personally think that I should nourish my talent with T* coated optics, so I have invested in a Contax RTSIII and a Contax G1.
Not only do we need these perfect cameras really badly, we also cherish them, and we are definitely overprotective. I don't take my camera to the beach, what if the lens gets sandblasted? What if I drop it in the sea, what if...
This is usually the point where we, promising photographers, go through life without a camera in our pocket. And boy do we feel naked. Suddenly everything we see turns into the perfect subject. If only we had a camera with us! We would take pictures so spontaneous, so full of life, so true that nobody could deny their beauty.
This is were the point&shoot makes its entrance into our prefrontal cortex, eureka! Why don't I buy a small compact camera that isn't too expensive, that's small, and that enables me not to miss a single real life photo opportunity!
Next, we relentlessly track down the most technologically advanced, optically exquisite, fasionable, german engineered piece of self-indulgence within our reach. And guess what? We start cherishing it from the moment it arrives.
Please don't spend any serious money on a p&s. It is supposed to be the one camera you don't mind spilling beer on. The one that can have sand in the filter thread, the one your girlfriend can take with her without you giving it a single thought. The one that is easily replaced. The one that's only valuable because it carries your roll of tri-x.
To me, that camera is my Nikon L35AF. I paid 10 euros for it. It isn't a work of art... That's the point !
