can i use a 35mm lens with the 40mm frame lines of the r3a?

how difficult would it be to approximate the right frame size?

is the whole viewfinder somewhat equivalent for 35mm frame lines?

if you have experience with this combo please tell if i should go with a r3 or a r2, because i don't want to get stuck with 40mm lenses on r3.

You need to decide what's more important to you - 35mm or 40mm.
The viewfinder on R3* is huge and the 40mm framelines already at the edge and very hard to see, therefore aproximation for 35mm would be (very) difficult. R2* on the other hand has dedicated 35mm framelines.
If you prefer 35mm over 40mm I'd go for R2*.

I have the R3A and the 40mm. I think it depends if you're wearing glasses: I did and I could not see the framelines for the 40mm without moving my eye.

Since I don't wear glasses anymore, it is feasible, and the whole viewfinder could serve for 35mm: I just checked with the 35 framelines on my R4A, and these show exactly the same image as the complete viewfinder of the R3A, but then, you have to move your eye a bit to see the whole image.
