I'm curious. I've read alot about the Canonet QIII and never saw anything about it's "design" parameters. Do you know someone on the Canon design team? LOL.
Seriously, I'm really curious how it was designed differently than other RF's of that era.
Okay, Canonman, you got me. I don't know anyone on the design team. However, I bought one back in 1977 & I wstill have it. I have some recollection of the marketing pitch. They were the point & shoots of the day & were considered to be an excellent buy because of their build quality & "professional features."
Although I don't know anyone from the design team, I can read between the lines. This is a shutter priority camera. Opt for a faster shutter speed if your subject is moving, slower if you need more light. Let the camera take care of the aperture. That's not a design whose primary function is to shoot wide apertures unless you have to. Of course you had that option if your skills lens themselves to it back in those days.
In a similar way, I don't need to talk to the design team to know that the Contax G was designed with autofocus as the first option. Yes, manual focus is available, but that's not what it was designed to optimize. While I can deduce that, it also happens to be what Contax says in their literature.
I can't find a direct reference in the Canon literature, but I think I can deduce their intent as well. Of course, I may just be full of beans . . . & often am. 😀 😉
