35mm lenses are cool

Reading through Raid's 50mm threads, I suddenly realize that I gravitate towards 35mm lenses:

Since this is RFF, I need to point out that the two in the middle are the CV Ultron and Jupiter 12 in Kontax mount. All others are SLR lenses, and most will become awesome 70mm lenses on my E-300.

Anybody else like 35mm as much as I do? 😀

I do! I have only two, a black Hexanon f2 and a silver Leica Summilux. It's the focal length I feel most confortable with. 🙂

A very nice focal length to use - I find that I alternate between 35 and 50... two-three weeks of mainly 35mm then two-three weeks of mainly 50mm and then back. Right now, I'm using mainly 35mm again. I have a Jupiter-12, a goggled Summaron f2.8, Nokton f1.2 and Summicron-ASPH. I love all of them. I'm looking for a nice 35 Flektogon MC for my Spotty II. I also had a 35 Ultron, which unfortunately was damaged beyond repair.

I also happen to like both 35 and 50 focals, equally at ease with either. In fact, rarely shoot any other focal length: have no vision for short tele, and wider lenses don't feel nearly as universal.

Usually if there is a fair amount of people where/when am going to shoot I pick 35, and look for situations with strong foreground. When it's less dense (e.g. smalltown street on Sunday), a 50 feels more natural.

I just bought a 35mm f2 Zuiko for my OM-2 ... I'm blown away by it's performance. It may just be the best 35mm lens I have! 😱

[edit] ... I think 35mm lenses are very cool on an SLR and make the camera feel much more rangefinder like!

I love 35mm's too. Have 3 Summicron-M 35/2 (IV), an asph, a 35/1.4M, Summaron 35/3.5 LTM, CV Skopar 35/2.5, a Hexar AF with Hexanon 35/2.
(Also a Nikkor 35/1.4 AIS, a 35/2AF and a 35/2.5 series E. Currently looking for a Zuiko 35/2 for my newly arrived OM3).
I feel a little lost with the M8, as the 28mm's I have tried so far seem jut to not fit the bill for me, as they are different in dof, perspective rendering, etc from hwt Im accustomed to with 35mm lenses...

I meant to type "if I hear about an exceptional 35mm I would buy it". Sometimes I when I get GAS I would try out a new system with one lens only. I bought the 35/1.4 Distagon for the Contax and then an Aria body for it. What a great one body one lens kit. I have no desire to get another Contax lens other than that 35mm. The first version 35mm Summicron-R is also exceptional.

I have both 35mm Zuiko lenses for the OM-system, the 35/2 and the 35/2.8. They're both great lenses. The 2.8 is TINY and light, yet very sharp. The f2 has a little nicer bokeh but is huge.

I'm a big fan of the 35mm lens. I have a 35mm f2.5 ltm nikkor which is an amazing lens.

I just bought a 35mm PC lens for my D50, so well see how that turns out.

For me it's either 35 or 50 (and sometimes 21), but 35 is my favorite FL as a small and versatile carry around lens. So I just recently got my second 35mm, a Summicron IV. It won't replace my Summilux 35mm pre-ASPH, they are nearly identical in size and while I prefer the Summicron IV at day time, the Summilux 35 pre is great at night. 🙂 Isn't a rangefinder camera all about 35mm FL ? 😛

I have not yet learned to like using a 35mm lens. The 25mm/4 CV is a lens that I love using, and of course any of my 50mm lenses gives me joy.

still trying to figure it out. in close quarters, it's easier to use than a 50, but also harder to use than a 28. i'm not getting as many "a ha!" moments when there are things in the foreground and background. seems to have an apptitude for flat scenes, where everything is either closeup or far away.

I feel similarly; but when all I have with me is an XA, I do just fine. I rarely use a 35 on any other camera.

I love 35mm and 24mm, but on a DX. So it's like 50mm and 35mm. 🙂

With me, I find that I "see" 35mm more naturally. However, if the subject is a person, I'm more comfortable with a 50mm as I can position myself at a slightly further distance. I also like the DOF of 50mm. I very much like using my 35mm f1.2 Nokton as its a 35 with DOF similar to a 50f2.8 wide-open.

The one I'm currently using is the Summaron 2.8 as it is the newest addition to the family. Here's one of the first shots I took with it.
