35mm lux asph- smooth focus ?

Hi dreamsandart- that's precisely the sort of focusing characteristics I have- smooth when arcing through, but when I stop and fine focus it's a bit notchy. I think Leica should consider offering tab and no-tab options. 😀 This would alleviate the finnickiness.

I've actually gone out of my way to get non-tabbed lenses because I came to RFs from SLRs and can't get rid of my old grip. The 35 Lux ASPH I bought despite the tab because I loved what this particular lens could do (I bought it from a local wedding photog on PN that had gone digital). I have one other tabbed lens, a 24 ASPH but I find the tab on that one not so easy to use as the 35. I think it has to do with the larger diameter on the 35. It would be nice to have tabbed and non-tabbed versions of the lenses but Leica would never do that. Too many people telling them how marvellous the tabs are.

The 24 does not have the smooth focus of the 35 BTW. No grabbing or anything, just not as smooth.

Yes, I have thought of somehow applying a raised grip surface on each side of the focus ring just past the focus scale. Even without this grip I find the lens focuses smoothly holding this way, but the problem without a raised surface is the extended aperture ring beyond the machined ring.

On the first ASPH version there is the machined raised focus ring and the aperture ring doesn't have this extra (for looks?) lip and it works better. Also the aperture ring itself is more 'old style' and the stops are better defined and don't move so easy - but I'm not going to pay the collector's price for one of those lenses! 🙂
