35mm solid spool spindle???

Does anyone know what current 35mm film has solid spools? I need to make a take up spool for my Kiev 4. I tried a Fuji, but they have a slot in the middle. I have a couple of articles on this, and have done it in the past, but the film brand is not current. Any help is appreciated.

If you can find an old old roll of kodak film those spools should be solid...they used tape to attach the film to the spool...
I just checked a reloadable Kalt cassette and those are solid...
I could send you a couple of spools if you want...

That would be great, Sam. About 4 mos ago, I gave my last reloadable cassettes to someone in need. Didn't think I would have need for them again. I will send you a PM

If anything you can take a hollow spool and fill it with epoxy.

Technically speaking there are no 'solid' spools- even Kodak spools are hollow within.

The Fuji type spools with central slits (same found in other makers' spools as well) can actually be better spools for Kiev. Cutting is easier. Use the central slit as the start point for the cut and continue cutting until the "lower" flange is reached.

What a Kiev needs is just a spool which can take the film leader in. Fold the film leader a bit, and slip into the cut slit.

Note that the Kat has added old cassette tops to both ends of his spool...

makes a huge improvement in smoothness of wind/rewind operation.

Also stops the spool from falling out. Nice job Jay.
