35mm Summicron V1 with mount removed

I took a chance at a KEH Ugly rated 35mm Summicron 1st version 8 elements in screwmount. What arrived was an M lens with the mount removed. The minimum focus distance is .7m so I am sure it was originally an M2 version. I attached a Leitz branded M/LTM adapter on it and tested the focusing with my M8 an it is pretty off.

My question is: Was the mount intended to be detachable for use on screwmount bodies? If not then I won't bother getting it cleaned and adjusted else I find another original mount for it.

AS far as I know, the mounts are supposed to be removable. The focus offset should have nothing tp do with it. I have 2 Summarons that I have used, both, with and without the M mounts with no problems. Perhaps the focus needs to be adjusted anyway. KEH is very reputable, and I think, will be willing to fix it at their expense.
