I've got a ZM 35/2 and I'm in the market for a hood. The bayonet hood seems a bit steep at $69 bucks. I'm wondering if there's a 3rd party bayonet hood that's square, like the Leica hoods? Can anyone point me towards one?

Also no idea about rectangular hoods for the ZM35/2 but I bought a Heavystar hood on ebay for mine. It works perfectly adequate.

I did end up with a ZM hood when I bought a ZM50/2 and it came with a hood. The ZM hood is made for the 35&50. The ZM hood is better only because the vents line up perfectly but I cannot say it is worth the difference in price.

So I would recommend the round Heavystar hood as having the best value/function ratio.

heavystar is cheap and okay for the money. it protrudes farther from the lens than the oem bayonet hood though, esp if you use a protective filter, because the heavystar is thread mounted. i also use one of the CV round hoods which i prefer for its smaller size, but it was ~ $35.

i'd really like the best of both worlds - the zeiss hood for $30-35 ...

I've been using the voigtlander 35mm hood for my 35/2.8. Works well. OTOH, I guess its not very cheap either. Given that I already have the 35 its convenient for me though 🙂

They're actually the same hood, from the same factory. I have both, and the only difference is one says "Zeiss" and the other says "Voigtländer".
