They work, but they are a waste of money. They have to be completely drained each time to keep them calibrated. I have a few for dire emergency use.

Not true JAAP.
I have been using non Leica batteries since last December when I bought my M8 and have had excellent service from them.
Maybe some of us are lucky !

I am unlucky as JAAP. I thought there is internal circuit in M8 battery.
I use Powerex untiversal battery charger MH-C7777PlusII to drain all the china M8 battery and recharge.
It works only 1-2 times and never work again after that till now.
I also notice the power is not stable. With china battery and c mode continue shooting it sometimes writing to card is very slow.

Now I have 3 leica batteires. All works perfectly.
Noway I will use ebay batteires again.
