my s&w heavystar hood showed up today and as you guys said, it screws on nicely and there is no darkening of my focus patch. excellent!
and now my cv hood sits on the zm 50 which was missing it's own hood.
i like it when it all works out!!

Hi Joe and Ray
Hi Joe and Ray
and others using metal hoods -- do any of you folks cover the hoods, and if so, where do you source your push on covers -- heavystar? just measure? thanks.

Interesting thread. I have no problem, focusing or otherwise (fit) with the CV hood for my 40mm.

check the lower portion of the focus patch when focusing at the near distance.

If near distance means close up, I still seem to have no problem. Of course the lower right corner is cutoff somewhat by the hood.

if i aim towards a bright light source with the cv hood on the 40 on my cl, then the focus patch darkens somewhat in the lower half. but only at close distance.
there is no darkening with the aftermarket hood.
odd that it would be different for you, i wonder what the differences are or could be?

I see what you mean, but it depends on the angle of the light. Since my hood fits so snug, I am going to rank this as a tiny insignificant problem and not worry about it. At least for me.back alley said:if i aim towards a bright light source with the cv hood on the 40 on my cl, then the focus patch darkens somewhat in the lower half. but only at close distance.

very good.
no great need for worry.
i have poor eyesight and am diabetic and when i discovered that dark part of the patch, after weeks of shooting, i panicked and thought it was my eyesight at first.
the aftermarket hood worked out great in the end for me as i wanted a hood for another lens and the cv hood fit that bill well.

...but then again, looking at your equipment listing, I don't see a CL or a CLE in your signature.

Ted, I don't use a cap with this hood. I usually use them, when I have them, but like Joe I was very pleased just to have a hood that didn't interfere with the focus.

With a CL and a CLE the standard hood interferes with the focusing window (not the vf), making focusing difficult.

maybe
maybe
because you have a bessa, the focusing with 1.4 might be specific to the CL/CLEs.
But old bessas may have their own quirks, like maybe not working with I61 lenses and also have short baselengths.
