40 M-Rokkor flange replacement

Hello,

I just picked up a 40mm M-Rokkor CLE, I've really been enjoying it!

Though, I would prefer it brought up the 35mm frame lines on the M9, as they seem to be pretty much spot on. I would rather not file down the flange, as the lens is truly flawless (it's hard to tell if it was even used).

Thus far, my search for a replacement flange which fits the screw pattern has failed. Does anyone know where I could pick one up? I know pickers can't be choosers but chromed brass would be ideal.

PS If somewhere sells a M-mount flange 'blanks' I could drill the holes myself. I think it would be kind of ridiculous to buy a 'for parts' lens just for a flange 😛

You could buy a Voigtlander 35/135 ltm to M adapter and modify it to fit.
Personally I would just file it. If you like it as much as I do you will be the last owner of the lens anyway.
I used to have one filed to 35mm Frames for the M8 and the other native 50mm for my M5.
Now I only one the M5 and use the 50mm lines generously.
It's not hard to estimate. Maybe use it for a while and find how you like the fit of the 50mm lines.

I had one modified by DAG to bring up 35mm frame lines, and it wasn't expensive. I think it's supposed to be an easy DIY mod for someone competent with a file.
DAG also milled the flange for 6 bit coding -- that was expensive.

Andy, I'm not sure that would work so well. First do you know that the M-Rokkor's flange is exactly 1mm thick? And the diameter may be different from a LTM-M adapter at the edge, which wouldn't look so nice, even with properly countersunk crew holes.

Mmmm True enough. Shimming or shaving is likely.

someone mentioned that they wedged a small piece of paper to stick the preview lever on their M camera before for the 40mm rokkor/summicron-c. Maybe you could try that?

Thank you for your responses Andy, Ari, and Kaiwasoyokaze. At this point, I do not feel comfortable at this point permanently modifying the lens without the ability to return.

I will try the paper in the preview lever in the meantime and continue my search (I am not in a rush, yet 😉

Unfortunately any suggestion of adapting some other mount is not viable. The mount of the CLE 40mm Rokkor has a specialised rear mount that is also machined as an integral part of the focusing helix. If you look at the rear of the lens and move it to the minimum focus position you will see the helix threads machined into the mount begin to appear. The only mount suitable is another 40mm Rokkor one and have it on hand as a spare if you want to convert the lens back. You would be looking at least 100 USD if one was for sale as a spare part. MSG me I may be able to direct you to someone on the forum who has one spare.

Hey all, just an update. I received replies from multiple eBay dealers who sell M-mount flanges. Apparently they do not source any M-Rokkor mounts. Oh well, maybe someday I'll breakout the file.

Palaeoboy, thanks for your reply. I'm not from Australia but I've been using this 'web name' for years, since I read about the irukandji jellyfish in a book.
