40mm Nokton: What Framelines?

Hey all,

I know that a lot of you guys file down the lens mount on the 40mm Nokton.

I was curious as to who uses 35mm framelines and who uses 50?

How hard is it to frame using the 35mm framelines? I enjoy doing portrait work but also landscape work (thus thats why the lens is so attractive to me).



Also, i've got an M3 w/ 35mm framelines and also looking at a Zeiss Ikon RF possibly... if anyone has experience using this lens on either cameras I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about your frameline experience.
 
I use 35mm lines. I wear glasses so nothing in RF-land seems that exact to me anyway.

I just wish i could get more ZI users opinion on how accurate it is to frame using the 40mm lens on their ZI.
 
I use a Cv 40mm Nokton on my M8. Had John Milich file the flange for 35mm framelines and added coding pits. Works amazingly well.

Framelines are always undersized to some degree anyway (for distant subjects), so that the 35mm frame actually turns out to be a good match for the 40mm lens.
 
On the M3, I used the entire viewfinder. On the M6 I use the 35 lines. My grandson, in his ultimate wisdom, filed the CV 40 to bring up the 35 lines on the M6. I've yet to try it on the M8, and, as he is not close enough to wrap my hands around his neck and squeeze, I will wait and see.
 
On the M6 the 35mm framelines are a perfect match from 3m onwards.

On the M2 the 35mm framelines are much bigger (10% or more), and
I find the 40 more difficult to use.

On the M3 the full viewfinder works well.

It's quite easy to verify yourself by putting a screen in the film gate
and check.

Note also that if you shoot slides instead of negatives, it will be
different - you loose space.

I know it's an old thread but I am still looking for some idiot-level instructions on how to file the 40mm Nokton mount to bring up the 35mm framelines on the M6.... Roland, I am 99% sure you had posted some info on that but I cannot find it..
 
Those images on how to file the flange are a bit confusing as the arrow points at different points depending on the photo.. Is it the top of the flange, or the slanted side of it that needs to be filed?

Hi i use 50mm FL for 40mm lenses. Then my compositions are tighter.
Some use 35mm FL, i´ve never felt comfortable with´em.
 
Hard to beat a Bessa R3a/m with it's built in 40mm frame lines. But, my 40mm also has the filing done to the flange to bring up 35mm on Leicas. Works well.
 
I use the 35mm ones, tho it is a lens that only really sees use on my M8, as the 35mm framelines fit it's FOV very well, and I have the 35/1.4 for use on my FF bodies.
