40mm on Zeiss Ikon?

I just bought a Zeiss Ikon from "digitalintrigue" here on RFF classifieds, and it came today. It looks like the beginning of a long and happy relationship. One problem, though. When I use it with my Rokkor 40mm lens (I currently own a CLE), the 50mm framelines show. Is there any way to force the more accurate 35mm framelines to show, perhaps by modifying the lens? I know I can make the camera show the 35mm framelines manually, but it's pretty awkward.

You'll have to carefully file away about 3mm of the mount flange that activates the frame selector. Not hard to do. It'll then bring up the 35mm framelines (which is what I use w/ the 40mm Nokton). Make sure you tape up the lens so as not to introduce filing left-overs in it.
Another way to do it is to remove the mount from the lens - no problem with getting little filings in the lens with this method. However, be careful on puting the mount back on as it may be difficult to get the whole thing to align (previous experience w/ another lens).

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice...

I'm going to be selling the CLE (here), so this is not an issue.

As for filing down "the mount flange that activates the frame selector," I'm not sure what that is. There are four prongs that attach the lens to the camera. Is it one of those, and if so, which? What gets filed down -- the top of the prong, one of the ends, both? And what do you use to do this -- some sort of jeweler's file?

Well, I finally got up my courage and did the filing. It actually worked! Now the 35mm framelines come up with my 40mm CLE Rokkor attached. I'm glad I did it -- the 50mm framelines were driving me nuts. I'd much rather compensate by giving my subjects a little more "breathing room" at the inner edges of a 35 frameline than trying to guess how much beyond the outer edges of a 50 frameline the shot will extend. Thanks to all who offered advice here.

You'll find that the 35mm frames on the Ikon are a very good match for the 40mm Rokkor. Some other 40mm lenses are slightly longer, but the (CLE generation) Rokkor is good.

If you google around you'll find a magazine article that shows how much less the Ikon shows at 35mm than a Leica (I think) MP.
