My new to me 40mm Summicron F2 Lens just arrived from evil-bay with-out front or rear caps. My Question is, which size caps will work on this lens? Thanks, Mike

For the back, any Leica M rear cap will work. For the front I recommend a snap on 39mm cap, like this one 160281673046, on ebay.
If you use the original hood or another hood (difficult to find, filter thread is series 5.5), a different front cap might be necessary. Best,
Roland.

It had a specific snap-in front cap, but a common E39 cap should work. Any M mount rear cap should fit. The real trick is going to be finding the original rubber hood!

KEH appears to have one in stock at the moment.

Thanks for responding so quickly, I knew I could count on the RFF members to help me out here.
I am fortunate in that the original rubber hood & fliter were suppled as well as the front element & aperture blades!

I don't understand why people keep the caps when they sell the lens? Oh well, thanks again guys.

I got a new rubber hood and cap from Leica USA recently, they had new ones at that time. Hope that helps,

I see. So then you will need the original push on cap, that goes on the (collapsed) hood. It's product number is 11252, and both KEH and DAG seem to have one in stock. Not expensive, either.
Best,
Roland.

An alternative is the Series ring for this lens, and then a regular E39 pinch cap. The ring acts a mini hood.
