I am looking for a 40mm UV filter to protect my Canon 25mm lens, but it is impossible. The originals rarely come up on Ebay and even if you can find a regular 40mm filter (which is also rare), it will cause vignetting. So what do people do to protect this lens when in use?

Thanks,
Juz

I got both 40mm Skylight and ND8 B+W filter from Adorama. I had to wait a couple of months
though due to back-order ... Sometimes the originals come up on ebay.

This is for my Canon 50/1.5. Filters have regular thickness, on the 25 I would
make sure that they don't vignette first (they did on the 35/2).

Best,

Roland.

a hood.

no UV filter - it only adds potential flare and reflections.

For my other lenses with 40mm threads I got a 40-40.5 step up ring - much easier to find. Maybe for the 25, you could go with a 40-52mm ring, which would double as a hood when not using filters, and should be wide enough to prevent vignette?

I have the wonderful Canon 25mm also but no UV filter. I do have a slim Walz yellow and orange and even they cause a little vignetting.
So usually I don't use any filter when working in colour.
A shade is not necessary because the lens itself is so far recessed.
