After reading the last bit of the "famous Nikon RF users" thread I take it finding a cap for the 5.0cm lens is a bit of a challenge...so what do those of you that do not have a cap use when using another lens?...or maybe I'm the last one to the party with no hat [cap] :( .

It would be good to have some protection, i.e. the 1.4/50mm lens I just bought within the leather case had some visible marks on the back element probably from transportation without rear cap. I reluctantly buy lenses without both caps because negligence and no caps typically come together.

I've moved beyond medicine-bottle caps.

The Kiev Suvival Site AT THIS LINK has a great article on making rear caps for Jupiter-8 lenses out of film lids. This method also works for the Millenneum Nikkor 50/1.4, so my lens now sports a cool black rear cap from an old film cannister lid. A perfect fit.

Kodak casette box tops without the inner ring (craft knite and stitches) will work real good on contax/iev lenses.

Noel,
CV makes excellent rear caps for Nikon/Contax external bayonet lenses. They don't, to my knowlege, make caps for the internal-mount 50mm lenses.

I'm not sure the casette cannister tops work for the older Nikkor 5cm/1.4 from the 1950s. It has smaller fittings on the back than does the Jupiter-8 or the Millenneum Nikkor. I've been using the same small plastic generic cap for close to 20 years. I picked it up out of an accessory bin in back of a used camera shop.

Vince sorry missed the f/2 caveat the kodak box tops only work on f/2 5cm internal mount i.e. they wont work in the j3 (1.5) or sonnar 1.5, either.

There was a Japanese guy on ebay named nobbysparrow who was selling new ones that he had made

I recently bought two of those rear caps and they fit nicely to my Nikkor-S.C. 5cm/1.4 and S-Heliar 50/3.5 lenses. They are both internal-mount 50mm lenses.

Checked my GBag, my 5cm 1.5 J3, 85mm 2 and 134 4 all have FSU metal caps that slip on the either inner baynet or focus follower!

I imagine the 'e block' nations must be awash with these and the collectors may be collecting the Zeiss origionals...

I imagine buying several Soviet 50mm lenses with caps is the cheapest way to get more rear lens caps for your Nikons.

The caps dont come with the 35mms they have a special plastic rear cap that is for outer bayonet only. So the lenses that come with caps would not register with the Nikon rgfdr. I know you know this...
They might still be cheap for Nikon man, trash lens, keep cap, not being snide must be difficult with Nikon kit, it was in '65 when I decided on and F instead.
Alas lots of FSU lenses are sold without caps, I've only ever seen the three I have in Gbag.
I'm just about to place an order for 2x CV caps, as spares, for the long focus outer bayonets. I may have to start making caps as well.

I dont have a Nikon, other then SLRs, I've wanted one from '65, (well from '58, but I bought a F in '65).

But the FSU caps must be cheap, and must be available on e-bay, I dare not look, the classified here are bad enough...

I'll post a photo if you want.
