50/1.5 Jupiter J-3 LTM back in production at Lomo

Can people please stop calling the Lomographic society LOMO they have nothing in common. The latter does not do hyperbole marketing and is one of the better mfg. of optical instruments. The Lomographic society is mostly a marketing company and a very good one at that.
People who are interested in buying good LOMO products will get the wrong ideas when reading posts about Lomo that are actually about the Lomographic society.

Regarding marketing Lomographics Society and the Petzval people don't seem to complain about the use of Heliar by Voigtländer for a lens that as nothing in common with Heliars, the same for the skopar, etc...

Instead of constantly badmouthing a lens nobody has used yet, the naysayers should wait for the first reports from actual users. The price for a new High speed lens is ok it's not cheap but not overly expensive either.
 
I'd like to know more about the Lomographic Society (where are they located, who are they, which optical and mechanical plants are they working with to get some stuff manufactured, etc).

I have to admit - I know nuffin' about them.
 
The Lomographic society is located in Vienna's 15th district in Austria, they started out by selling Lomo LC-a and creating a hype around them. Later products were mostly manufactured in China. Currently they seem to have a deal with Zenit-photo now running under the label Shvabe to quote Shvabe website "Shvabe incorporates the developers and manufacturers of optical, laser systems and complexes, optical materials and technologies, science-intensive medical equipment, energy-saving illumination devices, and other high-tech products."
 
I took these photos an hour ago with my M8 and ZK 5cm 1.5 Nr. 000029. It is a J-3 with "claimed" Zeiss parts in it. Such ZK lenses have often been just J3 lenses.

I've ordered mine and it's on its way to me.

I went for it as I only have old LTM mount 50mm lenses and there are no other brand-new ones on sale. In recent years the only alternatives that I know are the out-of-production Voigtlander 50mm f2.5 (a lot slower) and the LTM-mount versions of the Summicron that Leica produced some years ago, which would be far more expensive even if I could find one.

This gives me a brand new lens that I can use on my Leica IIIa and Zorki 4k as well as with the included adaptor on my M film and digital cameras and Sony A7ii.

That's not bad for £500 in my humble opinion.

I'd love to see samples when you get it Austerby. I have 1951 J3 that only works so-so (edge smear problems) on my A7S, but very well on film. The '51 should have German glass, like Raid's lens above. The J3 seems to give better edge-edge performance on the M8.
 
Noticed that they obviously also copied the "wrong" aperture ring direction. I hope this is the only bad thing that was copied 😉
 
This was taken many years with a "genuine J3" on a film camera (Bessa T) and with film 🙂

I am not (yet) identifying edge smudges in my images with the J3 on the M8. Itwould no be the glass that causes such edge smudging, but it would be the incorrect matching to the M8 with respect to accurate focal length.

Exactly! Noone else offers a brand spankin' new 50mm LTM lens, and noone else offers a brand spankin' new fast 50 ltm or m for this little money.

Which Is why I find it bizzare that some complain it is over priced.

If I did not have 6 50s I would order one of these. Someday I'll own one of the new ones.

I just blew my spending money on a 8" dobsonian telescope 😉
 
Excellent Bessa pictures on film of your daughter Raid. Great result at f1.5 in particular, and high-quality scans too. Somehow the film results seem more "solid". Same for Goamules lovely pictures above. I am attracted to having a brand-new J3, but like uhoh7 says I have already used my spending money, in this case on a 55/1.8 Sonnar for my Sony A7S. At least it is continuing the line of Zeiss derivatives from the original 1932 release. My daughter used it this morning to make some food shots and noticed how good it was at showing the bubbles of butter against the black frying pan.
 
I have a J3 that I bought for around fifty dollars ... in Contax mount though so I have to use it on my Kiev which seems to have developed a light leak somewhere. On the odd occasions I've used it I've been very impressed with it. Is there an adapter I can get that would allow me to use it on my 240?

The Amadeo adapter for the Contax RF to Leica M should do the trick Keith.
 
It has arrived, very nicely packaged in a proper little box with several supporting goodies.

I've not had a chance to use it yet but first impressions are good: the lens is small, well-made and the aperture and focus rings move cleanly.
