My dad called me about an hour ago and said, "Hey, I got a check for you. Come get it." I was confused, but it turns out its a reward for a referral. My dad owns a pool company, and as such I get a lot of friends that say, "Hey, my dad/uncle/neighbor/dog wants a pool, what should we do?" Since my dad only does one specific part of the pool, he isn't much of a help for these people, so I usually give them my dad's friend's card, he is the guy that handles every part of the pool building process. Anyways, one of my friend's actually took the card and gave the guy a call and he's actually having him build their pool. I had no idea there was anything in it for me, so imagine my surprise when I heard I got $500 for doing nothing!

I'm really tempted to put it towards a 4th version 35 Summicron, but I need to put it to more responsible use, I'm afraid. I'm trying to break away from my business partner and go out into business on my own, and this will help me get the supplies I need to be my own boss. That is of course a good thing, since it will mean more money for me later, but really, thats no fun right now.

Anyways, I'm just so excited, I had to share it with somebody! :D

Free money is great... there's not enough of that generosity about any more. I think you should invest it. Leave it in a savings account for a while. It's not much, but at least you can buy your rolls of film off of the interest if you're smart about it

I will be investing the money, just not in a bank. Right now I'm in a partnership with someone in a detailing business. Because of the partnership, I'm not making the sort of money I could be making, and quite frankly, its an unfair partnership since I'm the one with the skill and knowledge. Once I go out on my own I'll be making triple what I make now. The money will go towards the down payment on a truck of my own (to tow the trailer and equipment I already have).

you could get a really nice lens for $500 -=-- you know you can't resist

Trust me, I really want a 35 Summicron, but my Canon 35/2 is going to have to hold me over for a little while long... :(
