I prefer one lens length over another. I look at them as tools or challenges.

Most women don't look good unless you use a 50mm or longer focal length.

As I look back over the shots I've taken over the years, the better ones have most often been w/ a 50. I think that may be partly b/c the lens forces one to be selective in composition.
This is what I also said.
It forces the photographer to be more creative

sounds like a great excuse to go shopping for an 85 or a 135. =)

- I prefer images of people, and a 50 is the widest i feel comfortable using without distorting faces.
- I started shooting fashion, and the 'normal' lens was always the primary lens.
- You can crop and 'exclude' more easily than with a wide, toward getting more graphic imagery.
- There's the best balance of cost, size/weight, and speed.
- It's a "no trick" focal length. Telephotos distort by compressing. Wides distort by extending. A 50 doesn't seem to Do anything. It lets the scene speak for itself.

Dexter,
This is what I was trying to say. You have to create the scene.

I read a lot.
A 50 FOV seems like a natural extension of the same FOV.
I live and work in NYC.
A 35 FOV seems to be a natural extension of the FOV when walking about. If I didn't live in the city/urban area, I wouldn't need a 35.
My usage is split right down the middle.
