50mm Madness.......

Finally broke down today. My favortie dealer at the camera show (the one with the most Leica equip...) happened to have a Black 50 lux (46mm) in absolutely pristine shape....She took my VC Heliar 2.0 in and gave me a respectable amount of credit toward the 'lux....So after all that hemming and hawing I'm finally have my new baby. So impressed....focuses much closer than the Heliar...a little heavier, but I deal with it. The difference in sharpness, contrast and rendition is immediately apparent. I used a 400 iso film that I had been running through the Heliar this past week and souped in Rodinal. I'm pretty happy with what I see. Well worth the price. Shot @ 1.4, probably 1/60 Now to shoot some Provia/Velvia.

Excuse me too, but enlarged it comes up as about 3x5 in. and still nothing spectacular (original possibly is, however) - could you pls post a bigger/better scan or maybe even different photo - based on this one - I'd expect more from the Summilux lens.

My 1st experience w/the 'lux. The scan is small. Magus, I focused on the ceiling area to the left of the chandelier....was looking for the chandelier light to flare out. Going to shoot some slide today. Will post bigger scans tonight or 2-morrow.

It doesn't really make a difference, IMO, since flare is also generated
inside the lens at each element surface.

The better filters do make a difference but if you have light sources in the field of view at night you will get reflections/images, remove filter if it is not raining.

But be happy and try a slow film with Rodinal, tripod or other brace.

Both indoor and outdoor quite nicely. The look is a real shocker to me so far. The Heliar 2.0 really had a more modern fingerprint. I'm glad I've the pre-asph...it really has a distinct look about. Flaring aside, it has look I'm crazy about. These are shots from SM pier yesterday afternoon. All constructive criticism on how best use this lens are very welcome. Hmmm.....the system is only allowing this one image...apparently I've used my space limit for the day. Oh well....

Anyone have 50 lux shots w/ a 6stop ND by the way? I have one and will be trying soon....That filter vignettes a little on the 35 lux asph.

In my experience and according to most users, the 50mm Summilux is one of the most flare-resistant Leica lenses - are you having different results?

I think technically speaking, it's much more resistant to secondary reflections than flare which is quite good on flare suppression but no better than my current Summicron.

Lux = Noctilux 50mm/1.0?

I am not sure which lens you mean.
