Hi All,

I remember reading a while back how that the 50mm Nikkor-SC f1.4 LTM can be altered so when it is used on an M-Body it will contiue to couple to 0.7 meter (instead of 0.9 meters). I've had no luck finding that old thread, so If can show me way to doing this alteration I'd be very happy camper!

Thanks,

How about you post the results of the mod back to this thread?

Always like to read about another hacked lens!

Per "Mod" I'm going to show my hackery.

1) I started off attaching the M-Mount converter to determine where I should start filing. I then marked that area with black sharpy. Next I tuned the focus down to 1.5 feet to compress the lens away from the mount.

2) I taped up the lens so that any filings I made wouldn't make thier way into the lens.

3) I used small hand file set that I've had since I used to build models as a teenager to slowly file away starting on the left side (deep end) where the rangefinder makes contact with the lens and then tapered it up to the right.

4) next I cleaned up the filing work by disposing of the brass files, then taking a piece of tape, I could tacky it against the lens to pick up any micro filings that my blower might have missed. Next I cleaned up the threadings and removed the tape.

Note - It's important not to over file here because as you can see from the following photo you can start to file away the guide track for the lens (or at least what looks like a guide track).

or you might also hit the inner barrel

5) some more clean up, mostly of the threads.

6) Finally attach the m-mount converter

My Nikkor-SC 50mm f1.4 ltm can now couple focus down to 2.4 feet instead of 3.

Total time, maybe a half hour?

I just did this to a ugly, beat up Nikkor 1.4. I can't bring myself to hack a pristine 5005 though :/ That on is my user. I modified the othe because it was less a secondary for me. Funny how that works.
