50mm Sumicron-m 4th Version

Avoid this lens!!!! It appears to exhibit a weird flaw in the coating or glass giving an odd bright rainbow coloration to the rear group, possibly a de-cementing flaw in the optical group behind the aperture. It shows up in the last two pictures but at least the seller acknowledges this. However, the no refund policy definitely scares me on this one. Interestingly, I saw the same exact flaw years ago on another 4th v. 'cron that was for sale on this forum but the seller took it back without hassle. Must be a weird quirk that shows up every once in a while on this lens.

I would urge you to stay off flea bay unless you know the seller or you are buying cheap trinkets.

Then there is the scam where you are sent an empty box and you sign for it. Then you can not reverse the charges.

Have to agree with awilder on this one, that does look like the "gasoline on water" effect of separated elements, which would render the lens optically worthless.

I don't know if thats what it is, because my 35mm Summicron (Version IV) and my 50mm Summicron (black tabbed..I think thats Version IV also) both have that look to the coating if you look at certain angles and both lenses are optically excellent.

Chris, I think I know to what you referring as at certain angles you get almost a Newton appearance to the coating on some of these lenses. However, in this case it's very prominent and striking from almost all angles. Also if you look at the last photo with a view through the back of the lens, one can see a wavy colored pattern against the solid white illuminated field.

The lens is not in good shape for sure.
In case of the seller, I bought some leica parts from him before and thay are fine. He always states no return in his ad.
