56 and 60

i spent quite a bit of time today looking (on the net) at images from the fuji 56/1.2 and images from the 60/2.4.
it was obvious that both lenses are pretty darn good but i was surprised at how much 'pop' the 60 images had.
ok, i can't describe 'pop' but hopefully you know what i'm trying to say.
like the 56 had a smooth edge to what was focussed on compared to a crisp edge to the 60 images.

anyone else notice this?

also, i have to buy a 60 sooner or later....

Not sure what a thread killer is but I know a guy who has both and as I respect him I asked if he found the 56mm a worthwhile investment over the 60. His comment was that both are great lenses but the 56 is no lightweight so he tended to take the 60 out to the street.

I've seen his photographs and wouldn't care to guess which was 60 and which was 56 (until he opens it wide which he said was its real joy).

I didn't buy a 56 on the basis of his advice.

The 56mm with hood weighs less than a screw-mount Canon 50mm f/1.2, and roughly the same as an S-mount 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor-S.C or 50mm f/2 rigid Summicron (all naked); so unless you're disabled or are heavily involved in human-powered flight, weight shouldn't really be an issue.

Not that I am so disabled, or likely to buy any of the lenses you or Joe mentioned, but weight has become an issue due to off-and-on-again back problems. It may not be easy to disregard for a lot of people. It means my great Mamiya Super Press and 5 lenses get little use any more.

I had been using an adapted 50mm f/1.4 M42 screw-mount Takumar and a 55mm f/1.8 M42 screw-mount Fujinon on my Fuji X-Pro1 for general reportage. I had been using an adapted 55mm f/3.5 Nikon macro on my Fuji X-Pro1 for macro and close-up photography. When I began shopping for Fuji replacements, I considered the Fuji 56mm f/1.2 for reportage and the Fuji 60mm f/2.4 macro to replace the Nikon macro.

I bought the 56 because I really needed auto focus for my general reportage subjects but decided to continue using the Nikon 55 because I did not need auto focusing for macro subjects.

I find weight and size to be a constant issue so I tend to use my X100 over my X-Pro. I'm getting older but I'm still able to carry stuff I just can't be bothered any more unless it's with a purpose. I find that the X100 does 80% of what I want, the other 20% I just shrug and move on if I didn't bring the X-Pro. The sales guy for the X100F was extolling its extra pixels as a sort of digital zoom - huh.
