My Summarit 5cm f15 lens has just returned from JVS at Focalpoint as a completely restored, recoated, lubricated and adjusted marvel. When I sent it to him the lens flared so badly and was so scratched that I thought it was easily the worst $100.00 I ever spent. Now after a fairly pricey reconditioning it looks brand new and I can't wait to get it back in action. I will be using the lens for B&W on my M2 and M6 as well as my ltm's.
Apparently this is a pretty difficult lens to find filters for. In searching through auction sites I have found several bayonet style filters red, green, orange all dedicated to the esoteric and unusual Summarit. I have also come across some screw in filters with Summarit actually printed on the inner ring. My question is this: I am very curious as to how can I research these filters? The one I possess has a "0" printed on it, what is it?? Any help from the RFF experts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Dan it was over $300.00. Yes I know. Arguable. John does amazing work though and is extremely talented..can you help me on the filters?

I'm using the B+W 40.5mm UV MRC filter on my Leica LTM Summarit 50mm f/1.5 lens although the lens filter thread is more like 41mm, try to look for the B+W filters with 40.5mm filter thread, they should be compatible 🙂

I have done something the same when I had a Summarit. I found some very nice chrome mounted zeiss color filters that were 40.5 diameter, While loose when you first started to screwed them on, as they cinched up at the end of the thread they came tight and held perfectly. I was also lucky enough to find a couple of original Summarit 41mm filters (UVa and one other) at reasonable prices. I still have them and should put them on this site for sale I suppose but am too lazy I guess.

BTW mine only had provision for screw mounted filters, I do believe now you mention it that some used bayonet ones but I am not sure if with those you could use either type or only the bayonet mounted filters,

A supplier in Sydney sells B+W filters, one of them-a UV is 40.5mm and that is Elmarit 1.5 5cm size. They sell online but you could email them and see if they ship overseas.

Apologies for that one- the store is Madsens in Sydney and they have the above Filtershop.

I have same lens as you and will order from them once my lens has been cleaned.

Thanks Shane and Gary,

Has anyone ever had any experiences with this manufacturer and if someone wanted to purchase this hood for the Summarit, how does one go about it if they don't speak Japanese.😉

RFF member "jonmanjiro" had bought some filters from them, you might drop him a PM.

I think 6000JPY + shipping is a little bit on the expensive side for this lens so I use the above mentioned heavystar 40.5 W-filter together with a 40.5mm for my 5cm Summarit 1;1.5 lens 🙂

It's expensive-No question...thanks for your help, maybe I am getting a little carried away😱😱😱

The filter size is 41mm. I wrapped a little teflon tape used for plumbing fixtures around the 40.5mm filters to use on the Summarit. If you can find one: The Tiffen #611 series 6 filter ring is made for the Summarit and allows series VI filters to be used on it. Also easier to find a Series VI shade.

Roninman,

$100 for the lens and $300 for the resto = a perfect or near-perfect Summarit, sounds like a reasonable deal...

"Decent" to "Minty" Summarits are averging $300-$400 each, and are probably less decent or minty than advertised...

Please share some photos from yours when you havea chance... "before" & "after" would be great !

That's what I thought too LF Frank. This way JVS and I could control the quality and I know the lens elements are properly collimated and cemented correctly. I very much appreciate all the help guys. I'll post some photos soon...cheers

I've bought some hoods from Yamaoka-san, but never filters. He's a great guy to do business with.

41mm filters for Leica lenses are fairly easy to find in Tokyo. from memory, there's a few at the filter section on the 2nd floor of the Camera-kan, Yodobashi Camera in west Shinjuku.

Bump...Finally have some photos to post with the Summarit, after JVS.

All on Fomapan Classic 100 in Rodinal 1+100, 20 C, 20 min Semi-Stand. Using a Wratten 6, Yellow "summarit" filter "0"
