6 bit (shave and a re- grind)

Hi!

I learned something new today about the 6 bit retrofit. My friendly camera dealer told me that Leica does not only add the 6 bit encoding itself, but re- grinds the focussing cam because of the non- existent curvature of the sensor (compared to film). This is why it makes sense to have lenses retro- fitted. The difference would be visible only shooting close up, wide open.

Does that make sense to me? Somewhat, but I am not an expert. I wonder if somebody more knowledgeable than me could comment on that.

I am still in the pre- purchase phase and need to decide between a 35- biogon (new) and a 35- cron (pre- owned).
