howdy, these are my 1st images

Hi folks, I just wanted to post up some scans of some photos I took with my new-to-me Fuji GW690. I'd never used a rangefinder OR shot 120 before this; it's been probably 15 years or more since I shot black & white - not to mention at least 3-4 yrs since I shot ANY film at all.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any critique y'all might have on how I could improve my photos. I'm a fan of "fill the frame", so that's basically my compositional technique - a holdover from my photojournalism days I guess.

These are done with the GW690 and Ilford HP5+ film; most of the exposures are done at relatively low apertures to limit depth of field, but I don't recall what exactly I used for each image.

There's also this one that I'm linking to rather than posting, as it's a really giant file & I didn't want to destroy anybody's bandwidth. It's probably my favorite of the bunch, which is why I left it large 🙂

David, nice photos.
How do like focusing on that camera? Do you scale focus for these type of photos or focus thru the VF?
 
I find the focus to be a bit of a PITA. For the above pics I actually focused each picture. I do find myself using zone focus a bunch on it for general street shooting. The focus is very fine.

I have considered looking for a VF for it then just pointing that big ******* in the general direction 🙂

All lovely shots Wes! lucky me I had some extra bandwidth to enjoy the Dukati picture at full resolution.! Keep them coming!
Btw looking at the tones of the grass, did you use some filter?

Thanks. No filter - yet. I'm thinking about trying out an orange filter, I've read a bit where that helps increase contrast a bit.

I notice in some of the pictures the grass looks really well-defined, but in others it's very washed out. The day was kind of overcast, I wonder if that had that effect - shooting into the light vs shooting away from it.
