I agree with toyo -- i have a few 6x9 folders I LOVE -- the Super Pontura is my favorite -- hard to find for sure - but a lot of fun to use. The Voigtlander Bessa II is also nice - if you get one that's in good condition.
 
The agfa record iii with solinar gets some excellent results also. I am going to be taking mine to the UP this weekend and post some pics next week. But it doesn't have a built in rangefinder, I am using the voightlander led meter.
 
Thanks for the replies. I have kids/nephews who don't stay in one place for long. I just want to focus and shoot with the exposure taken care of. I could take a meter reading and just re-measure when lighting conditions change but think it nice if there was a built in meter.

Just got the Mamiya 7II and it operates just like the M7. Wish there was something like that in 6x9. A Fuji GSW690 III with auto exposure would be just what I want.
 
Thanks Toyotadesigner. I do have the meter that you recommended, for my Leica M2! I have taken your advice and will meter once and just go shooting.

Just got a Fuji GW690III from KEH in LN- condition (should be in my hands by next Tuesday) but am still looking for a GSW690III which is what I really want.

They have a GSW680III in EX condition but I don't know if that will work well using a Beseler 6x9 negative carrier (I only do wet prints, no digital). If I print 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20, is the 6x8 or 6x9 more in keeping with the paper proportions?
 
With a GSW690III, I'd imagine I would still have a hard time trying to focus and capture a kid/nephew because (1) I would need to use some really fast film or some strobes because the GSW lens is slow and (2) the finder is more dimmer then the GW so good luck focusing accurately on a moving target.

....then again, it is still a rangefinder so out-of-focus blurry shots are OK with it.
 
6x8 would be closer to the paper proportion, but what shape do you want to shoot? I wouldn't give up the 6x9 aspect ratio just to fill out a sheet of paper a little better, but that is right for me. Camera format isn't always so important to everyone. The 6x8 is a rather rare camera in the US. Does it give 9 exposures on a roll? that might be handy.

Oh yeah, I use the VC II meter with my fujis, works great, but I'm not shooting fast moving kids with those cameras.

Erik, you're right, I shouldn't give up negative area for paper ratio. I will keep looking for that elusive GSW III in mint condition.

My sole film right now is Neopan 400. I take pictures of the kids usually on bright sunny days outdoors, many times on beach holidays so the lens is not so slow for what I need.
 
Those Fuji 6x9s Texas Leicas are sharp, I have darkroom prints that rival 4x5. Scanning is a hassle with 120 unless you can afford a better scanner like a Coolscan 9000. Using an Epson is like kissing your aunt or sister (although considering how weird photographers are it is lousy analogy).

If you want auto-exposure and medium format, you're looking at the 6x7 Mamiya RFs and down to 6x6 (all of the system cameras) and 6x4.5. Given the subject matter is fast moving kids, the sort of camera you may want would be a Fuji auto everything 6x4.5 gizmo or a Hasselblad H1 or Mamiya 645AF.
 
The kids are not so fast anymore, from 1st grade to college senior. They stay but not for long. I've gotten great shots using my MP and an 18/3.8 with hyperfocal. I can't wait to develop a 6x9 negative as I'm looking for better tonality. Don't scan at all so no need to worry about a scanner. I am thinking of printing 16x20 now that the negative is bigger. 11x14 is my maximum size presently.

Offhand, I can't think of any 6X9 format camera's that have in-camera metering (autoexposure).

I did sell the GSW, as I wanted both the focal lengths and wanted to carry only one body. So, I went back to my G690 and 100 mm interchangeable lens. I closely watched eBay until I finally scored a 65mm f8 lens. Since my dark blind works on the G690, I now have one body and two lenses. In addition the 100 interchangeable lens is a touch longer than the fixed 100 on the GW models.

The 65mm did not have a finder, so am using the 65mm finder from my Mamiya Press.

for kids/children shot i suggest you a bronica rf645 with dedicated flash!!!very fast,AE,great flash and VF(better than my leica m6).try it nand let me know

Not in camera, but in-lens AE/metering exists, in form of the EBC Fujinon AE 100mm f/3.5 for the G series.
