70mm Film FUN up ahead

The three Kodak 8x10 Hard Rubber tanks with covers were delivered. Their size and weight I was not prepared for. LOL. I have anothe 8x10 tank coming in tomorrow.

It all started with buying a Nikor rack with 12 120 reels that can hold 18 reels total of 120. On a good day's worth of shooting is about 18 rolls blasting away. I tend to shoot like an assasin in 3 and 5 round bursts moving slightly for different shots for editing. BTW the Nikor rack with 12 Nikor reels had a $50.00 BIN with free shipping: No money.

Use to take me an afternoon of doing several tanks, but now I have the capacity of dipping and dunking 18 reels all at once.

Bonus is that I can do 3 15 foot reels of 70mm for a similar number of shots of 6x7 in one batch.

So for me this type of capacity makes sense. ADOX seems the way to go because I can make it myself, and there is a replenisher. These tanks hold 3 1/2 gallons of developer. Crazy is good. Also useful for 135...

3-Parts Reel Jobo 2500 and Jobo 2517-70mm reel

Jobo 2517
Can also be mounted in Testdrum 2820(made for 10x20cm prints)-400ml-i used full 500ml-bottles.
Also the 2500-reel-trick(3 parts)-combo can be mounted in Testdrum. only did not use but its lighttight.
And the trick with the adapter-only one 2500-reel needed. Nokton48 has a drawing for 3D-printing. Is it the same one could find as file? the latter not allowed for commercial use? Holgamods should offer yours Nokton48. but he needs a 2500 reel then. maybe Catlabs could send him one for free.
3Reel-Jobo 2500 at left, Jobo 2517 70mm reel at right(178cm lenght/220). i measured 172cm, Jobo says 178cm. offical 220 lenght 164.5cm maybe lenght for used images.

70-500 manual

70-500 manual

WOW!!!! Look what popped up on Ebay. A rare opportunity for somebody...........
Not affiliated with the seller in any way whatsoever...........

TWO Hasselblad A500 Magazines. You would need an EL or EL/M body to make this workable.
500 exposures from 100 feet of perforated 70mm film.

So cool.

Nikor 70mm Hundred Foot Reel by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is the Nikor 70mm Hundred Foot Reel. The lighttight cover screws down onto the reel, once it is loaded. See the threaded socket in the center of the reel? Then you drop the loaded reel and cover into the developing tank.

These reels are EXTREMELY heavy. Now this is truly going big LOL

I have two of these complete units presently in storage. Hope to make use of them some day.

Dan,

Mucho crazy. I like it.

The fourth tank came yesterday. Funny thing is that it has holes drilled for draining. I had intended to use this tank as a wash tank. Good to know it wasn't used for fixer or developer.

Bonus are 6 4x5 stainless steel film holdes and 6 stainless steel clip film holders.

How lucky am I?

Cal,

Here is my 8x10 Kodak Hard Rubber Wash Tank. It is marked Model 8181.
Notice the hose connection. I will be adding new vinyl hose and faucet connection (from Lowes) probably sometime soon.

Here I have twisted the PVC pipe around, so that you can see the water jet holes. There are two sets of these, one on each side of the PVC tubing. I guess this is the original Kodak factory design. Will go with it and see how it works.

Kodak Vision 3(65mm)

Kodak Vision 3(65mm)

I've dabbled in some 70mm film and Kodak Vision3 film (65mm). Wanting to explore even further. Have purchased most of the equipment online throughout the couple of years (ebay) but haven't completely made it working yet. Nonetheless, here's a frame from Kodak Vision3 250D film, hand spooled. Shot on a Rolleiflex 2.8F

I think you're right too. I think I picked up the Nikor 15' reel. It's pretty big! But I think its meant to be developed in total darkness.... unless I have something different. I'll send pics when I'm back in Florida.
Can you lead me to informations about this 65mm/70mm film and how it is loaded. what is 65mm? did you remove remjet during developping or used ECN-2-chemicals?

2502 Jobo Reel mod by Nokton48, on Flickr

And here is how to adapt a Jobo 120/220 reel to fit 70mm: Not fifteen feet but it will go in the Multiank JOBOS. Would be useful for short test dev rolls.
https://github.com/phenidone/jobo-70mm

how is this meant? can we use this template for free and ask a printing company-like holgamods-to do the work? 2. can he then sell it for others too?
Dan did you ask randy of holgamods already if he could print yours?

It can be made, the same is available for 2502 Jobo reels for 16mm/110 pocket format.

See? I really do have two of these! And two developing tanks as well. Dragged them out of the basement of Midwest Photo fifteen years ago. $75 for the lot. The scrap stainless steel is worth more than that!

But now I have the Hasselblad 500 exposure motorized 70mm back coming my way. I knew buying these tanks for "no money" would pay off some day for me.

two 100 foot Nikor 70mm film reels by Nokton48, on Flickr

There was a time, when this would sell for as much as a car! Now it is MINE.

Advantages:

1) It does not use 70mm Kodak cartridges, it takes Kodak 100 foot 70mm film spools. So no scratching during cartridge loading.

2) Has a integrated guillotine cutter, shoot what you want, then open in the dark and unload a short strip if you wish.

3) Two integrated film counters.

4) Found it also also fits the 500C and 500 C/M, as well as the E/L and EL/M. So it will work with both of my cameras.

5) The "cool factor" is undeniable. I am a collector, as well as a user.

Dan,

Mucho crazy. I love it.

Mark Cuban once said, "Go big: or don't go." LOL.

What is the weight of a loaded Blad with that back. My guess easily 10 pounds. Film alone weighs a lot. Does that back use cassettes or spools?

Funny how we can invent ways to use gear. 100 feet of 70mm is almost 37 rolls of 120 equiv.

Also for those have not handled Nikor reels, know even the 15 footers are mighty sturdy and beefy in weight. My guess is that one of those reels alone weights about 2 1/2-3 pounds. Maybe more?

Seems like an opportunity to buy rare things for no money. It has been a month of waiting and the shipping for the Version 1 reel and cassette loader is almost been a month. The shipping was actually more than the purchase price, and at last check the loader from Germany is presently somewhere in New York. Perhaps delivery will happen today. Overall only paid $83.00. Most of the price was shipping.

According to the Hasselblad instruction sheets (just provided by Europanorama!) :)

Magazine 46 oz, film 21 oz, battery 3 1/2 oz. Plus the camera, finder, and whatever lens.

So a bit of a beast!

Should stop traffic............ LOL

WoW Dan! That Hasselblad 500 exposure motorized 70mm back is insane! What did you do for the battery? It's surprising that it did not have any additional way of securing its connection to the body. Also it looks its made to be used with sports finder on the left side of the Hasselblad. Original Users of the beasts most likely did not look for perfect framing. Tape distance to infinity and just blast it

Goran,

It's on its way to me from Utah. It uses the same NiCad battery that powers the EL/M. One or maybe two can go in the trap door on the side. I'm hoping I can power it with my EL/M 9V alkaline adapter. Those old original Hasselblad NicCads are terrible.......... UGH I'm almost positive it allows regular reflex viewing. Nothing special required according to the original instructions. I think NASA used to use these to photograph Saturn 5 rocket launchings, among other uses. This is probably the rarest Hasselblad accessory ever made. And the most expensive!! Can't wait to get it in my hands! :) Now, should I buy the second one the seller has offered me? I think not! One of these is enough for me. LOL

I am going to earnestly try this weekend to mix fresh ADOX Borax MQ Developer and Replenisher. So I have dug out the recipe and here it is:

ADOX Borax MQ Developer

Metol.............................. 4 grams
Sodium Sulphite............... 80 grams
Hydroquinone.................. 8 grams
Borax.............................. 8 grams
Potassium Bromide........... 1 grams
Water to make................. 2.0 liters

Add a pinch of sulphite to the water before adding the Metol. Or else it will "self destruct", oxidizing before your very eyes. That is aggravating..............

ADOX Borax MQ Replenisher

Metol........................... 3 grams
Sodium Sulphite.......... 80 grams
Hydroquinone............... 5 grams
Borax......................... 18 grams
Water to make............ 1.0 liter

Rate of replenisher: 20 ml per 80 square inches of film (120 roll)

I use one and two liter plastic soda bottles to store the soups.
