Dan, you are so dedicated to 70mm film! Congratulation!
I decided to dig deeper and explore extended red sensitivity of Kodak Double X Aerographic 2405 and Rollei 400s in 70mm. Yesterday I got nice Kenro R720 filter. Of course, I will try to run them also with regular #25 and #29 red filters.

Here it is..........
Haven't had time to check it out. Hopefully it is as described.
The back itself is not anywhere near as heavy as I had imagined. Surprisingly light in weight.
EDIT: It's got a few issues, so back it goes. Oh Well! There is always another deal down the road.
My Wife said "that is insane". LOL

The Graflex XL Grip arrived today. I searched for a while for a complete unit, a lot of them are missing things. Anyway the brass plate on the bottom of the Norma frame is not going to come apart, so I think I will make a block, attaching the top part with the brass plate, and I'd like to use the removable 3/8" threaded bolt in the top of the grip for the bottom part. I'm sure I can come up with something. At this point the grip is attached to the Norma with duct tape. But now, it really looks like a real Sinar Handy!

Better be careful where you walk around with that thing, Police might shoot at you!
I once walked through a forest with a Novoflex 600mm pistol grip lens and all of a sudden military guys jump out of the bushes and wrestled me down to the ground because they thought I was part of a military exercise! Really scary experience.

Actually it's on it's way back to the seller for a refund. I doubt it had ever been used, but that is a problem! The top back wouldn't close properly (sure it needed new foam! Something else was going on....) and one of the frame counters was completely wonky. No way it was going to work.
Hasselblad would probably just laugh if I asked about getting it CLA'ed. Who else could do it?
I am going to stick with the Hasselblad A70s. They work for the most part.

Here is the other way to finish this, and frankly, I think I prefer this option. The Graflex XL grip is not as ergonomic as the Linhofs, but I think it will work ok. One bonus is that this one is complete (usually they are not), and includes the threaded flash shoe, which seems like a good bonus to me. I would have to drill a hole for the orientation pin on the XL mounting plate, then drill and tap two small mounting holes for machine screws in the Norma frame. But that is doable. Finally I can bolt a Manfrotto Hex plate to the bottom of the frame, to fit all of my tripod heads.
So it becomes like a poor man's Linhof Technar. But with Norma parts.

Dan,
Nothing like a Linhof grip. The grip is one of the reasons I bought a Linhof. Never intende on buying three. LOL.

Had some time yesterday so I figured out a way to attach the Graflex XL Grip to the Norma format frame. I used two tiny brass hobby screws and nuts. It seems to be a very solid arrangement. The camera seems heavier with a side grip. I am still looking at Linhof grips but I want to give this a try. The Mamiya 7 43mm Viewfinder works like a dream. I am getting there....

Graflex XL 70mm Film Back on homemade Sinar Norma Handy body. This back will make 50 6x7 exposures on perforated or unperforated 70mm film. And I have several rolls of unperorated 70mm (Tri-X and Efke PL100).

|Hey Calzone,Nokton-
Somebody on large fprmat photography forum has a 200 ft roll of Agfa ISO 200 ariel film 9.5" wide for 220 euro's. I figured it out...if you can figure out how to cut it down, you can get 600 feet of 70mm unperfed fim out of it. it works out to 55 cents a foot.

Hey Mr Fujicaman,
Thanks for that! I will keep that in mind. That stock would even feed my 8x10 Normas for a great price.

Hi there,
I'm a brand new user on this forum, and this thread was one of the main reasons for joining up. I have never used 70mm film, so this could be a new exiting adventure. The plan is to put a Mamiya RB67 70mm back on my Polaroid 600SE, using a Mamiya G-adapter. As for film I'm already a customer with Macodirect. My main issue now is how to develop the film. Due to restricted space I'm looking for a tank solution, but used equipment for sale is thin on the ground. The NDT reels that Dan has purchased look very promising. I have a Beseler 11x14 paper dev. tank that I'm not using, and I had the idea that I could "cut it down to size" and use it as a film tank. But I have not been able to find the diameter on those NDT reels, so I wondered if Dan could possibly help me with that? I would be very grateful to get that information.

Hi There Kai-San,
The NDT reels are rather large, I just measured across one of them. They are 6 3/8" in diameter, and 3 1/4" in height. You will need a really large print drum to hold it. But it is doable.
Here is a 70mm NDT reel, on the left is a SS 120 reel for comparison, and on the right, a JOBO 120/220 reel.

It's also possible to make something out of stainless steel. See photo above left:

Europanorama (Micheal) made this 70mm daylight tank by cutting down a 20x24 Chromega Print drum. He says he has used it for years and it works great. As I recall I think he uses this with a JOBO 70mm reel. Now THOSE are really hard to find.

Also JOBO makes the #3063 20x24 print drum and that can be cut down, and should also work. An inversion cap is available for that one.

Thanks Dan for the measurement and all the good tips. You were quite right about the size of these reels, my print drum is about an inch to narrow. I have to look into the Jobo print drum, looks very promising if it can be found.
I have a brand new Mamiya 70mm back on its way from Australia, it comes with 2 cartridges as well. Now I need to find a smart way of loading them with the correct length of film for the reel.

There are five or six of the 3063 JOBOs on Ebay right now, each priced $200-$500 each.
Don't buy one until you confirm the inside diameter of the print drum: But it will prolly fit.
Catlabs is the JOBO distributor and is pretty friendly and knowledgeable

Yeah, I checked ebay too. The Catlab site is down for the moment, I'll check later.
