I am really enjoying this lens.
I shot a session last week with a model who was visiting from Chicago. They're all more in the f 4.0-8.0 range, but I'm going to try to post a few of them as well soon.

First shots with the 75mm Heliar f1.8

I took my first roll of film with the new 75mm Heliar f1.8, and I was delighted by the unique personality this lens has. We are told that it is noticeably softer wide open and that the highlights are supposed to glow. Shooting classic cars seemed like a perfect test for both claims. I have to say, it is more than acceptably sharp wide open, not modern Leica Apo sharp, but comparable to Mandler era glass in my opinion, my favorite level of sharpness which I much prefer to the clinical sharpness of many modern lenses. And the glow is there! Very nice effect when photographing shinny things. It was sharper than I expected. A wonderful surprise. Even though I own a 75mm f1.4 the Heliar has a different enough signature wide open that I will definitely be using both.

I thought a detail might help make my point. Hand held at f1.8 @ 1/1000 sec. I use the Zone System and open up 4 stops. No ND filter was used, but a B+W UV MRC filter was used.

Here's some intimate landscapes I shot today using the 75mm f1.8 at f1.8 on my Olympus E-P2 with adapter. Males it a 150mm f1.8. Still got the glow and still sharper than I would have expected given the "softer wide open" caveat. A terrific lens!

I've started to use this lens with Portra 400 (M6). This image is a little soft, which is my focus error, but I still think it works.
I'm about to try the lens on the M9 for a senior portrait I have next week.
