75 on a zi

i'm about to order a 75mm lens for the zi.
the zi has framelines for 85 which also work with a 90 quite well.

i'm thinking using a 75 with 85 fl should be easy enough.

any thoughts before i take the plunge or should i be thinking about an old canon 85/2? (much prefer to get a new cv 75 tho)

You'll be fine with the 85mm framelines, Joe. Will allow you to crop to
8x10 if needed. Best,

Joe,

The 75 lenses bring up the 50mm frame lines.

I would suggest an external view finder. Voightlander makes one.

Joe - You are absolutely correct. I did not even think about the CV lens being screw mount and using an M adaptor.

I got a copy which backfocuses heavily (it is being fixed now). Check your lens with some ruler shots when it arrives, as to the frame, well it is quite a bit wider, so you should compose really tight.

You are not getting any younger and those old heavy Canon's aren't getting any lighter.

Get the CV. 😉
 
As you would expect, it's a little bit of a kludge, but I have been pretty content using a Voigtlander 75mm finder with the 75mm APO-Summicron on the ZI (brings up 50mm framelines). I find it easier than using the preview switch to bring up the 85mm framelines, and you're still guessing on your framing with either the 50 of 85mm framelines on the ZI. At least with the finder you can have a little more confidence in your composition.

I'm sitting here looking at my 75/2.5 on one VI-T body sitting next to my 85/2.0 on the other VI-T body. I guess if joe is buying new I'll have to keep my 75/2.5 and use it. 😀
 
Joe - Congrats on the 75, but I REALLY do NOT believe the DONE part. I wonder why?????

Unfortunately, Me teasing you about being done is like the pot calling the kettle black. Fortunately for my wallet, I'm in the selling side of the cycle right now and getting rid of gear that doesn't fit my style now.

Here is an images with frame lines for 35, 50, 75, 90 lenses
(I hope the attached image shows).
Using a 75mm lens with 85 frame lines should be quite fine.
I tried a 75 Summatir (preproduction version) on a ZI recently,
and it feels and looks great. Unfortunately, I can not justify
getting one from financial point of view since I already have
an Elmarit 90 🙁. I guess I can sell Elmarit but I will loose at least $500
and for a bit more I can get a used C-Sonnar.

ray, i didn't say that i was done...i said i'd like to say that i'm done.
but then i remembered that eventually i'm gonna get the cle repaired and a 40/1.4 would be a perfect mate for it.

ok joe, your mission is to tell me if I should keep and use the CV 75/2.5 or sell and buy some other lens. Deal?

I'll know the answer to my question if you sell your 75.
